Sourcing Director

Seagull Lighting designs and manufactures residential lights and fans. It has an extensive range of traditional decorative and LEDs lights for both outdoor and indoor applications. Responsible for supplier selection, streamlining production, establishing quality control processes, negotiating product pricing with lighting suppliers in China. Honeywell Scanning and Mobility was formerly Metrologic Instruments. The company makes scanners for the retail and merchandising markets. Its product portfolio includes hand-held, counter top, document and bar code scanners. Spearheaded strategic sourcing efforts in the Plastics Category to alleviate over dependency on dominant supplier source. Led and trained China sourcing group in methodical approach by building should-cost model, framing negotiation focus, formulating objective key parameters to evaluate potential suppliers. Drafted and consolidated with legal department purchasing contracts covering topics such as yearly productivity savings, commodity price and currency fluctuations, maintenance of safety stock, extended payment terms, and warranty requirements. Developed and trained China sourcing staff in negotiation techniques.

Achieved 29% cost reduction from existing flagship hand held scanner unit GSL, using strategic sourcing approach.

Achieved 20% cost reduction on existing table-top scanning unit. Actively managed project implementation from supplier selection, cost negotiation, project award, to production. Closely directed and monitored project progress by conducting weekly evening conference calls with Chinese team to ensure timely completion of project milestones.

Negotiated monetary compensation from China supplier responsible for delayed project completion. Successfully leveraged local China team in distant negotiation to achieve a further 10% reduction in tooling cost as compensation.

R&B Inc. is a leading supplier of automotive replacement parts & hardware, brake products, and household hardware to the Automotive Aftermarket and general merchandise markets. Its major customers include Pep Boys, Wal-Mart, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, and other household names common in the automotive and household DIY retail markets. Trained and guided suppliers to achieve better product quality. Successfully trained Chinese suppliers in applying proper method of manufacturing, testing, bill of material generation, quality control plan, and the qualification of manufacturing processes. Negotiated good payment term and product cost. Provided good leadership in project management, communication and problem resolution for new product introduction and logistical challenges on packaging, delivery, product specifications, and so on.

Resolved vendor technical difficulties and significantly improved product quality and throughput in the manufacture of Harmonic Balancers, Oil Cooler Lines, Exhaust Manifold Castings, Clock springs, Parking Brake Cables and others. These product offerings fetch a retail market value in excess of $10 million.

Successfully nurtured and instilled the essential discipline for the manufacture of quality products firmly among Chinese suppliers using meticulous, direct and clear operating procedures. Mack Trucks Division of Volvo Global Trucks – Allentown, Pennsylvania 1998 – 2002

Project Team Leader – Strategic Sourcing – left position to gain more experience in Low Cost Sourcing focus.

Mack Trucks, a dynamic division of Volvo Global Trucks enjoys a prominent market position in the North American heavy-duty commercial truck market. Led cross functional team projects to organize and streamline purchasing activities among the Mack, Renault, and Volvo groups. Managed strategic sourcing projects for combined divisional spends in the Vehicle Dynamics and Electrical Commodity groups. Performed advance purchasing studies for the Mack/Renault global convergence program. Led cross-functional team members in the US and France to benchmark advance concepts, negotiate with suppliers and proposed final directions. Led and encouraged the use of reverse auction techniques (with Freemarkets) on select commodity groups.

Effectively managed a cost saving implementation program in the HVAC group identified through Strategic Sourcing of more than 5% ($700K) of commodity spend. Achieved annual cost saving target in the Electrical System group of more than 5% ($250K) with battery, 15% ($300K) with lighting, and 10% ($60K) with electrical switches.

Successfully negotiated a cost reduction for a mechanical fan clutch (a major part) through value analysis of the design and manufacture of the part.

Appraised the operational efficiency of vehicle lighting manufacturers in Taiwan. Upper management in a subsequent Strategic Sourcing program on the same commodity used the published survey for market analysis.
