I was hired by Crowne Architectural to oversee projects in New York City, and to reorganize those projects that had fallen behind schedule. One of these Projects, the SLS Hotel on Park Ave South required most of my attention as it was over 4 months behind with a projected opening of March 21, 2017. I was able to bring the job back on course, with completion in early March. Crowne had hired me with a substantial contract that was pending the merger with TAGG Industries of Canada. On February 24, 2017, all employees were informed by Crowne that the expected merger was not going to happen, Crowne had filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and all employees were laid off. I completed the SLS Hotel project without pay on March 10th.

Coordinated Metals and Glass is one of the largest glass and ornamental installers in New York City as well as a manufacturer of their own products with an 80,000 square foot metal shop located in Carlstadt, New Jersey. With projects as diverse as Time Warner Center, Hudson Yards, Durst Pyramid Building, and NYU Medical Science Center among others. I was hired as a Project Manager to oversee three projects in New York City: 599 Lexington Avenue, 1460 Broadway and NYU Medical Science Building. Projects exceeding $7,000,000 each. As Project Manager for CMI I was involved in the early stages of estimating and bidding the project, taking over the project immediately upon award of the contract, develop the engineering drawings and oversee the fabrication of the project itself in the shop. Upon the shop completion of the project components the PM was then responsible for the delivery, coordinating the labor and installation of the project in the field and oversee its progress. CMI is one of the few companies that not only designs its own products, develops, fabricates, and also performs the outside installation in house which was something very new for me. At Coordinated I was able to more thoroughly learn the complete fabrication and installation process of both storefronts and curtainwall installation.

Project was just completed. I was hired for a one year contract by Roschmann to act as their site supervisor and project manager for an elaborately designed series of buildings designed by SANAA Architects. The project is titled Grace Farms. The 6 buildings making up the complex consisted of entirely glass walls, which were individually curved at various degrees, and all of the pieces were significantly different from each other in sequence, all rhomboid shapes with different bottom and top angles. To make the project more complex, each unit had to meet a 7/16 vertical gap without any divider. All 244 units, 4 ply constructed, each weighed between 2000 and 3000 kilos. The installation was intense, over one of the worst winters in Connecticut in numerous years. The Glass was the key to completion of the project as all interior finishes were reliant on the completion of the glass. I supervised between 4 to 12 glaziers on a daily basis, from delivery, installation to final glazing completed by August 2015. Specialized equipment, such as mini-spider cranes, specially fabricated suction machines adapted for curved glasses, as well as different size heavy equipment which had to be utilized on a daily basis. The project also included extensive surveying and plotting of all sill and head channels fastening points in coordination with the concrete and steel sub-contractors which were handled by myself and the installation team.

Shanghai Tower - February 2012 to March 2014

I was hired as the Project Coordinator for Shenyang Yuanda Aluminum Engineering Co., Ltd., and Jangho Curtain Wall Co., Ltd., and Mittal Steel Corporation upon a referral from LaChaise Vinci, I was in charge of coordinating the construction of a very complex outer shell curtain wall, which tied in to an inner outside curtain wall of the building. The outer wall design was the first of its type in design, and as such the erection of the wall required total concentration and resourceful installation utilizing multiple small derricks. The job was immensely challenging, and touched on every aspect of my experience. Project was completed. Returned to New York City.

ONCOPOLE Cancer Center - Toulouse (31) - September 2008 to January 2012

Site Superintendent for LaChaise Steel and Erectors, in conjunction with Vinci Construction

I was one of five site superintendents, and I was primarily involved with the layout and erection of the structural steel. The project had a large footprint, with the building consisting of two intersecting ovals, with an above layered building design. I went to France to assist in the raising of my Daughters after my Wife had passed away in 2008, and found a unique opportunity to working the construction business overseas. I had both an interesting and learning experience in the layout, design, and construction of a modern specialty Hospital.

Project was completed.

Upon the death of my father John T. Lucas, I purchased the construction division of Lucas Industries and Electric from the family renaming it LucasBilt. This was my own company that I began in 1992 as a vault reconstruction and water-proofing company. The company specialized in steel construction, historic and landmark preservation, doing such jobs as Carnegie Hall, US Government contracts for Independence Hall, Grants Tomb, Statute of Liberty grounds, and Ellis Island. I closed the company mainly due to the loss of my largest contract being the World Trade Center Plaza following 911. The Company took a huge financial loss, and proved unsustainable with almost all my work was in lower Manhattan and downtown New York was in a state of flux after 911. In addition I had family obligations overseas following the unexpected death of my Wife in June 2008, who was from, and was living in France at the time. I have two Daughters who were still in High School in France at the time, and I felt that it was best to move there until they were ready for College.

Hugh Stubbins & Associates, Prudential Insurance - Roseland, NJ - September 1991 to July 1992

I was hired by the Architectural Firm Stubbins Associates to be both the Architects and Owner's representative on a 50 million dollar new building located in the Prudential Campus, Roseland, New Jersey. Project was unique in that due to the limited waste and sewer capacity of the Town of Roseland, a waste treatment recycling facility had to be erected within the basement of the building, utilizing a series of 100 foot long liquid waste treatment vessels resulting in non-potable water for the building. Project also required extensive site work oversight, with periodic visits to the steel fabricator in Alabama, and the concrete pre-cast facility in Toronto Canada. Contract Completed.

Site Superintendent/ Owner's Representative

Feil Organization and RBL Associates - New York, NY - December 1990 to August 1991

I was hired by the Developers to take over supervision of a new building construction large Condominium Development of 300 units, 23 Town Houses, and a quarter mile long 3 tier garage that had to be blasted out of a quarry. This was an extremely difficult job due to the fact it was 6 months behind schedule when I began the job. The previous project manager had been fired, and the site super had retired leaving the project stranded behind schedule, with an approaching HUD deadline. The project was completed with C of O prior to the deadline. The job required 6 day weeks, and 14 hour days to meet this deadline. I had to reduce the number of subcontractors for poor performance, and take on the masonry, carpentry, hardware, and appliance installation on the developer's payroll. This was extremely complex and demanding due to the Trade Union structure in Westchester County, New York. Project completed on time with full C of O prior to HUD deadline.

TIGER CONSTRUCTION (TISHMAN) - New York, NY - November 1987 to November 1989

Responsibilities

I was hired as a site superintendent for the renovation of a large warehouse in Queens, New York to house the factory and executive offices of BULUVA Watch Company, and LOEWS Corporation. The job was demanding as much of the factory had moved into the site while the site was still under renovation. The work then had to be done on two shifts, at night 1200 sq. ft. of overhead scaffolding and protection had to be moved and reinstalled for the next day's factory work. The interior division was phased out of the parent corporation.

I worked on a variety of commercial interior projects, including Banks, Law Firms, Brokerage Houses, Large Stores, and Museums. Nico was at the time the largest interior construction company in New York City, contracting in hundreds of projects each year. It was not unusual for me to have five or more projects running simultaneously, however the work load was structured so that most of the projects were in the same geographic area. Ninety percent of my projects were in the financial center downtown Manhattan. The work was varied with over 40 projects completed from a range of five hundred thousand to two million dollar contracts.

Responsibilities

Herbert Construction was mainly an interiors oriented Company. While my time spent at Herbert was mainly as a Site Superintendent, I occasionally did the double duty as both Project Manager and Site Superintendent. The interiors work I supervised due to the high level of perfection and detail demanded by both the Architects and Client. This was my first exposure to high end residential work, and I found it gratifying, however I found the pace of such work at times exasperatingly slow. Two examples of such were the Gary Wexler residence at 730 Park Avenue which took a year to complete, and the Lionel Pincus residence at 720 Park Avenue (18 months), both supervised by myself simultaneously. At the end of 1985, the Company was in some sort of legal difficulty, and I found a better and more interesting opportunity with Nico Construction and took it.
