Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in applying for the position of Mandarin Teacher.

I am a native speaker of Chinese from mainland China with 13 years of high school foreign language teaching experience including a full year of Mandarin teaching experience in Ithaca High School, New York (2009-2010) as a guest teacher through TCLP. It is Teachers of Critical Languages Program sponsored by US Department of State. This highly competitive program brings only 15 teachers from China and 10 teachers Egypt every year to the United States to teach Mandarin and Arabic in school districts around the country for one academic year.

Being able to be selected by TCLP, I had one week of Pre Departure Orientation in Beijing, two weeks of professional development orientation in Washington D.C, four-day workshop in Boston. I was also awarded the Critical Language Project grant to attend the 2009 ACTFL in San Diego. I value all these opportunities because they not only helped me have a better understanding of the American education system but more importantly, they equipped me with necessary teaching concepts and advanced methodologies of how to teach a foreign language (both Chinese and English). What I have learned has contributed a lot to my success in teaching Chinese in the US and my work back in China.

As a Chinese teacher in a public high school, I shared necessary responsibility in the classroom with my mentor. And I also had the opportunity to work with students of different age groups. I taught middle school students during their lunch period three times a week and gave cultural presentations to elementary students in the school district. I love to spend time preparing my lessons to make sure that my class could be interesting and creative so that my students could be very well engaged and have fun while learning Chinese. I love to combine my teaching with technology and hands on activities because I believe students could always learn better using different teaching strategies. I also successfully wrote a grant for taking my students to Chinatown on a field trip, where my students put what they learned in class into practice. In recognition of my success working as a Chinese teacher in the US, I was chosen as the cohort leader of the Chinese teachers of 2009-2010 and was asked to give presentations at the PDO to the exchange teachers in Beijing in 2011.

I am an outstanding teacher in China who has won many provincial and national prizes related to teaching a foreign language, some of which I have listed in my resume. I was frequently asked to give presentations at different professional development workshops. So I am confident to say that I am the teacher you are looking for. I have passed the National Mandarin Test with the score 90, Level I,B.( Level I, A as the best). I have the teaching certificate which allows me to teach foreign language to students from K-12. I am also familiar with most of the teaching software, such as Smartboard. In addition, I have a good personality. I have strong communication and coordination skills. I am flexible and quite a quick learner. I learn things quickly and know how to adjust myself to new environment. What’s more, I have been volunteering in a local Chinese Immersion Classroom in an elementary school working with 1st graders.

Thank you for your time to review my application. I look forward to a face-to-face interview with you to discuss my suitability for this position. I can be contacted at 480-***-**** or aczafp@r.postjobfree.com at your convenience. I look forward to your positive reply. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Liang Sun
