Assessed/evaluated the physical, emotional and social service needs of evacuees and provided case management as required for those housed in an American Red Cross shelter (August 2016). Additionally, Tuesday/Thursday nights & Saturdays (8-16 hrs/wk outside of regular job responsibilities) between September 2005 to September 2006 as Mental Health Disaster Responder, volunteered as part of the Louisiana State University at Shreveport Mental Health Disaster Team in Shreveport, LA. Served as initial responder and core member of a disaster response team comprised of local professionals in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita offering expertise in the assessment of physical, emotional and social needs of hurricane evacuees housed in Shreveport area involving exposure to individuals with PTSD; worked closely with other volunteers, local churches, non-profit organizations and state/local government agencies to assist evacuees in returning to New Orleans or complete relocation to northwest Louisiana; and, extensively involved in evacuee advocacy with Federal Employee Management Agency workers.
