EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Seeking a position as a research and development chemist taking advantage of my knowledge of polymer science and organic synthesis.

Strong background in polymer science (chemistry) with more than 6 years of experience, focusing on the formulation of synthetic methods to fabricate advanced polymeric materials for medical applications.

Highly skilled in synthesis and structure-property characterization of organic molecules and polymers.

Highly proficient in a full range of analytical techniques for molecular characterization and problem solving.

Proven team leader with excellent interpersonal, communication and project management skills developed through teaching, mentoring, and collaborative research.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Department of Chemistry, Vanderbilt University, TN 2013-present

Graduate Research Assistant in Polymer Chemistry

Synthesis and post-polymerization modification of branched polyglycidol.

Utilized cationic ring-opening polymerization to synthesized branched polyglycidol.

Characterized polyglycidol using NMR, IR, SEC and MALDI-ToF MS.

Performed reaction optimization to achieve control polymerization.

Fabrication of biomaterials from functional polyglycidol building blocks.

Synthesized and characterized novel hydrogels from functional polyglycidols.

Instituted collaborative research to construct a polyester/polyglycidol hybrid hydrogel for drug release applications.

Designed experiments that successfully demonstrated the ability of polyglycidol oxime-based hydrogels to release bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2) for bone fracture healing.

Degradable polymeric nanoparticles as theragnostic agents.

Collaboratively synthesized and characterized a polyester nanoparticle, and post modified the particle’s side chains to form a targeted nanoparticle capable of delivery to the islets of Langerhans for the treatment of type 1 diabetes.

Department of Chemistry, Vanderbilt University, TN 2010-2013

Graduate Research Assistant in Organic Chemistry

Synthesized, purified and characterized a variety of novel chiral small molecules.
