Safety Director

Currently the Safety Director for two companies; CRB Electrical & Mechanical Inc. and A/A Mechanical &Fabrication. Inc. I work for the two companies and their customers performing onsite visits and training. I present a safety culture in a method and manner that ensures that employees understand and believe in the safety culture.

Provide safety training to our employees and employees of our customers.

Currently providing an ongoing safety training program for Goodyear Tire and Rubber company.

Anixter Power Solutions, Waynesboro, Virginia September 2013 – July 2016

Facility Operations Manager

I have started up two distribution sites and managed a large 12-acre warehouse/storage yard for Dominion Power. I have performed duties in operations, safety, training, human resource, and inventory management and customer service. With customer service requests for transmission lines and substations in the Western part of Virginia and parts of West Virginia. This included directing the work force for multiple projects with different vendors, material coordinators and construction contractors. I managed the daily operations budget safety and inventory to exceed the goals set by Dominion Power and our company. Additionally, managed the safety training for employees from other locations from Virginia and North Carolina.

Effectively partnered with our customers and contractor’s leadership to set up and developed and establish procedures and policies on how we were going to maintain the products in the inventory system and handle the request for shipping. Resulted in improved operational efficiencies in maximizing existing workforce efforts, saving everyone time savings and company labor costs.

Designed standard operation procedures, job safety analyst for safety training, machine operations, work procedures, site evacuation plans, daily safety meeting and pre shift stretching. Resulted in a known safe working culture for employees and visitors with zero injuries each year of operation.

Negotiated with contractors, vendors and service providers on pricing for materials, equipment and service. Resulting in generating additional annual cost savings for our customer.

Federated Auto Parts, Staunton, Virginia June 2011 – September 2013 Operations Manager

Held a multi-functional position as operations, safety, training, human resource and inventory manager. For four sites and two companies I managed a fast paced distribution center with staff members, providing products to 15 distribution centers and 4,000 stores. This included responsibility for all dispatching of work for one facility. Came in to lead a complete culture change in safety, production, housekeeping and accountability.

Developed and implemented safety programs, job training, on boarding program, standard operation procedures, booklets and videos for new and existing employees. Increased the efficiency rates from 60 picks per hour to over 230 picks per hour.

Improved employee morale through meetings individually and in groups, setting goals, coaching, mentoring, performing evaluations and communication of their progress achieved. This lead to increase in employee morale and increase of overall employee satisfaction and retention.

Designed a daily housekeeping program to keep the facility neat, clean and organized at all times. Resulted in a safer, cleaner, more efficient work environment that employees and visitors felt good to be a part of.

Implemented a recycling program to help reduce cost and keep materials out of the landfill. Resulted in major cost savings to the landfill and hauling fees by baling and selling all cardboard and reusing used pallets.

Performed safety inspections for all sites, investigated incidents and documented findings to corporate leadership and insurance companies. Maintained an accurate inventory rating through educating, monitoring, coaching, mentoring and following up on any issues or concerns.

Maintained staffing for three sites and cross trained employees. Moved workforce around to ensure the production needs of the customers were met. Resulted in on time shipments and customer satisfaction.

MeadWestvaco Distribution FFI/ DSC Logistics, Raphine, Virginia March 2004 - March 2011

Plant Manager

Started up and managed three proto type distributions centers for MeadWestvaco. Nearly 1 million square feet of storage space. This was a fast paced operation. Capable of handling over 200 loads per day by trailer, containers, LTL, intermodal, rail car and air freight. Our products were shipped all across the world. Held a multi-functional role managing the plant as Plant Manager, Safety Manager, Human Resource Manager, Training Manager, Fleet Manager, Transportation Manager, and Inventory Manager. As Maintenance Manager, directed 12 shift leaders and 140 employees, achieving maximum performance in handling customer service requests within an in-bound/out-bound distribution center. We consistently maintained a 99.9 % inventory rating. All with zero injuries for seven years

Lead a safety culture where safety was a core value. I designed and implemented Job Safety Analyst,Safety Procedures,Policies Regulations and Standard Operating Procedures.

Designed new concept of storing products from calipers and coatings to order numbers. Resulted in significant improvement in pulling product for shipment. Less time and less touches equals less damage.

Designed an upgraded layout plan of the facilities to utilize the space for different sized products to maximize storage capabilities. By changing the width, length and depth of the bays.

Designed new stacking patterns to increase storage capabilities from 6.4 tons per spot to over 10 tons per spot. Increased to total storage space and cost per ton to store.

Implemented and developed our on boarding training programs, safety training, standard operations procedures, employee handbook and job safety analyst. Ensured that all employees were trained and performed the procedures the same.

Implemented a recycling program reusing shipping commodities. Resulted in cost savings of over $1 million.

Implemented a recycle program of rejected paper rolls and cardboard. Instead of placing in the landfill they were taken to county recycling center at no cost.

Changed roll wrapping process from hand applying blue tape to a sprayed on hot melt glue. Improved the time to perform the job by 600% and saved over $1 million at this facility. It is now used company wide.

Maintained the facility and equipment to meet and exceed the standards set by OSHA, DOT, FDA,

Reduced product entry time by pre loading trailer/containers resulting in substantial time savings for our company, the drivers and the customers while improving customer service by improved efficiencies in reduced wait time.
