Designed thermal chamber for testing insulated records container. Did vibration and structural analysis for these products to withstand UL thermal exposure drop test and over road shipping.

Wrote a manual for the installation and repair for automatic valves.

Wrote opinions for a patent litigation case and provided expert witness testimony in federal court.

Professional Experience

Mitchell Machine Springfield MA Mechanical Engineer 1/2017 to Present

Designed and documented weldments, assemblies and components for a system that inserts plugs in vehicle steering arms. These maintain fluid within the assemblies. System includes structures to support pneumatics, linear actuators, force, position, and sensors for identification part in position and of good and reject parts. Used Solidworks 2017.

Deines Inc Spencer MA Mechanical Engineer 1/16-4/16

Created Solidworks models from AutoCAD drawings to update and redesign components for a slitter wheel grinder. Components included sheet metal housings, shafts, and covers.

Designed weldments to replace no longer available castings.

I replaced an employee who left unexpectedly, hired to finish the project.

RT Engineering Franklin, MA Mechanical Engineer: 8/15 to 10/15

Design for virus filter test system involving a reverse osmosis water wetting cycle in one bowl and an air cycle in the second bowl. At a given air pressure, measure volume air flow to determine that the product meets specification.

Designed and documented sheet metal covers, welded frames, water lines, the water tank, bowls, plumbing and sealing. System involved a water pump, filters, flow controls, mass flow meters and air cylinders.

Speedline Technologies Franklin, MA Mechanical Engineer 4/15 to 5/2015

Engineering manager called and asked if I would redesign an existing system to reduce cost and make it more user friendly.

Budget constraints required completion in 4 man weeks. The task completion required an additional 2 days. Designed 4 piece formed sheet metal, covers automation interface, enclosure components for a easily replaceable epoxy supply.

Components include level sensors, .pneumatic valves, sensors, indicator LEDs and electrical interconnect. This design largely required focus on DFM to reduce cost for large volume of necessary worldwide replacement.

Excellims Corp. Acton MA Contract Engineer 12/14to 1/15

Redesigned a package for an ion mobilization system that prepares ions for introduction to mass spectrometers Ordered parts from several vendors and insured all components for assembly were available.

Wrote and illustrated an instruction manual for assembly of the heater detector and gate assemblies.

Enclosure includes a sheet metal housing, bulkheads and covers.

Vytek Inc. Fitchburg, MA Mechanical Engineer: 4/2014 to 8/2014

Redesigned industrial laser systems for different applications. These included a redesign of a fiber laser system to incorporate a more powerful fiber laser.

Redesigned a sheet metal enclosure accommodates a 5 x 8 foot glass sheets. Lasers used within the systems included diode and fiber lasers. Used Solidworks rev12.

Prosource Waltham MA (on-site) @ Milara Inc. Milford Mechanical Engineer 4/2013 to 10/2013

Redesigned fiber optic sensor assemblies for robotic arms to identify acquire and position parts. Designed a robotic arm, with sensors to identify fiducials for positioning an adhesive dispensing pump.

Designed a paddle to find, acquire and transfer 12” wafer processing glass.

Redesigned an ELEM module that handles 12 inch wafers magazines. Designed a servo controlled door for wafer transfer to and from an inspection clean room.

Prosource Waltham, MA (on site) Speedline Technologies Franklin, Mechanical Engineer 2011-3/2013

Designed pc board inverter to allow processing on both sides of PC boards. Redesigned optional modules to improve manufacturability and ease in-field utilization.

Redesigned weigh scale assembly to incorporate scale and its system interface module, by replacing a welded aluminum assembly with a casting. This reduced the number of parts and eased assembly. For a new dispenser system designed the base casting, the conveyor and the sheet metal doors and covers. Designed LED laser illumination assembly to more easily identify fiducials on in-process components. Designs included sheet metal structures, castings, slides, stepper motors lead screws sheet metal components.

John Galt Burlington, Ma (on site) Elbit Systems Kollsman Medical Merimack, NH Mechanical Engineer 2010-2011

Reviewed customer request and wrote reports to change the design of an automated spectrometer organic sample identification system this to accommodate FDA and European installation requirements.

Designed the base casting, sample conveyor, cables, Power supply and slide elevator for an automated optical blood analyzer.

For a US Army bullet steering system designed the prototype optical package, which included FLIR and SWIR cameras, lenses, kinematic mounts, windows, range finder, fast steering mirror, fiber optics, sheet metal covers, lens mounts, camera mounts, wiring, power supply and seals.

For all designs used SolidWorks 2009 and 2010.

Warren Pumps, Warren, MA Project Coordinator 2008 -2009

Made drawings of US Navy automatic microprocessor controlled valves. These were for ship fire-main and chill water systems. Wrote a manual for maintenance, repair and installation of the valves.

Designed 6” wafer TOTS valve and analyzed seat and seal of 3, 4, 6 and 8 inch TOTS valves. CAD used SolidEdge and AutoCAD.

Ahura Scientific, Wilmington, MA Packaging Engineer 2007- 2008

Designed for manufacture saliva diagnostic system package. This system included: Plastic covers, auto-focus optics, FPGA, blue and green led laser to provide fluorescing I/O, micro stepper-valve actuators, vacuum, touch screen LCD display, barcode scanner, cables, power supply, data down-load interface, control board and external power input.

I completed most of this design in 11 weeks. The project did not receive funding from NIH to continue.

CAD used SolidWorks 2007.

L S Starrett Company, Athol, MA Project Engineer 2005-2007

Designed electronic measuring tools, dies for over molding, injection molding and fixtures for programming ASIC's. Purchased, installed and programmed environmental chamber for thermal and humidity testing of electronic tools.

CAD used SolidEdge, AutoCad and NX-3.

Instrumentation Laboratories Lexington, MA Consulting Engineer 2003 – 2005

Responsible for testing a three channel peristaltic pump, used in a blood gas analyzer, to establish parameters for size and materials for tubing.

The pump was required to produce micro liter volumes while maintaining a strict ratio over an anticipated 6000 test per month.

The testing required modification to the test method and the pump cage tolerances. The materials and sizes were successfully established after 8 months of daily empirical testing.

Also, work on the development of a cartridge that would be used by the customer to insure that their analyzer was operating properly.
