While reviewing opportunities on the Goodwill Industries of Central Florida, Inc. web site I find that Goodwill is currently hiring a Employment Placement Specialist. Throughout my career I have been involved in assessing needs, developing and implementing treatment plans, supervising the execution of those plans, providing services and referrals to assist families in meeting their needs, reaching their highest potential and reporting on progress making me especially qualified for this position. Many of the youth and families that I served experienced a lack of educational, vocational and life skills necessary to obtain and maintain sufficient employment. While employed with Home Builders Institute my responsibilities included recruiting “at risk” youth into a vocational program, facilitating employment and life skills groups, identifying aptitude and areas of interest, assisting youth in preparing resumes, applying for positions and tracking youth success in employment. I also developed an “in house” job bank to assist youth and families in locating potential employers. My experience has been in both Orange and Osceola counties providing an opportunity to serve people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds in a manner that was sensitive and aware of that diversity. My ability to speak Spanish was extremely helpful to me in that endeavor. My Master”s Degree in Forensic Psychology has re-enforced and expanded my understanding the importance of employment in meeting not only financial but social and emotional needs.
