February 2014 - Present

Velarray LLC

Houston, TX

Electrical/Product Development Engineer - Primary responsibility focuses on the design, prototyping and testing of a proprietary imaging technology. This included the development of concept design, circuit design and pcb layout using Altium Designer, programming both the hardware in C using ARM4 and PIC16 controllers and a Windows application prototype software using C# and openCV. Please see www.TruFitPro.com as an example application of the final product.

May 2005-February 2014

ALA Scientific Instruments

Farmingdale, NY

Lead Engineer for Research and Development - ALA's main product line focuses on the science of eletrophysicology with universities being their primary market. Thus products include microscope imaging, automated fluidics for drug administration as well as maintenance of living tissue samples, valve controls and temperature and pressure controllers.

I was originally hired to oversee the development of a rapid temperature swing stimulator used in pain research for which they were given a $500k NIH grant. This included concept and circuit design, prototyping and testing of a device which could change temperature of a fluid rapidly with 10C/second rise/fall times from 0 to 50 C and hold with a 1 second steady state response. I was also responsible for the application software and hardware firmware development as well as custom vendor class USB communication using PIC and Cypress PSoC controllers.

A typical valve controller would include a series of drug filled syringes controlled from a central desktop computer software via USB. For this I typically used a generic communication protocol with a vendor class designation. Please see www.alascience.com for examples.

Duties included design of new products and revamp and maintenance of existing product lines. Additionally, as many of their clients are involved in cutting edge biological research, I was asked to also design custom equipment to meet their specific needs. Typical duties included participating in client consult and concept studies, proof-of-concept designs and prototyping mixed circuit design and signal processing often including sensors such as temperature, level, flow rates and pressure, sampling, control and data acquisition. Design tools included Cell, Altera Quartus, OrCad, Altium Designer, Alibre/GeoWorks and Solidworks.

Duties also included working with testing, production and procurement personnel to analyze device failures, improve quality control and yield and conduct cost reduction studies. 2003-2004

Chengdu University of Technology

Chengdu, Sichuan

P.R. of China

Electronics Instructor - Duties included curriculum development, presentation and student assessment for classes in basic analog circuit design including basic theory and function and modeling of common passive and active components and computer programming basics including assembly and C languages for class sizes ranging from 30 to 100 students. 2001-2002

Guangxi University

Nanning, Guangxi

P.R. of China

English and Electronics Instructor - Duties included curriculum development, presentation and student assessment for classes in basic analog circuit design including basic theory and function and modeling of common passive and active components and computer programming basics including assembly and C languages. 1999-2001

DataSound LLC

Philadelphia, PA

Electrical/Product Development Engineer - Primary duties focused on the development of a proprietary FLASH storage based audio entertainment system which included a main storage system with touch screen access, primary multi speaker audio player, automotive audio system and portable audio player all connected via wireless communication. Here I participated in concept studies, control and audio circuit design including digital sampling, PCM, virtual sound simulation, D/A mixed signal audio processing as well as small class D Bluetooth headphones and 240W class AB audio amplifiers as well as 1kW DC-DC switching power supplies. The majority of system design employed PIC18 and TI C5500 DSP processors with a mixture of integrated and discrete level analog driver architecture. I also participated in the development of a proprietary audio compression format which unlike Motion Picture formats, leveraged the unique repetitive characteristics and patterns of music format to generate high lossless compression rates. 1995-1999
