BACKGROUND:

SPRINGVILLE -- A blossoming Internet company called AirSwitch that is wiring Utah County with its own fiber-optic network and boasts 10 megabit data transfer speeds had rather unexpected beginnings.

"A group in our neighborhood in Springville was kidding around with each other about playing network (computer) games together and how fun it would be to have a neighborhood network," said Kevin Crandall, assistant general manager at AirSwitch. "One guy in particular -- Keith Anderson -- had a programming company. One of his programmers lived around the block from him, and they wanted to be networked together for professional reasons."

This network was eventually sold off and assimilated by other internet service providers. The fiberoptics are still in place and active today.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Job duties for this position included management of the materials and purchasing department, with P & L reporting to the COO. I reviewed and updated the current practices and procedures for improvements and cost saving measures that saved up to 25% each month. This was accomplished by analyzing the different parts of the supply chain from vendor selection to money allocations. This supply system covered the United States as well as off shore locations. These changes were communicated with the different locations where materials were stored and issued. I led the effort to link repair and production departments together to maintain proper inventories of new and repaired components. These components were made up of R and D special one of-a-kind part to mass production parts made at vendor’s location. I also made the selection of second sources for critical components and key overseas materials. Vendor performances were carefully evaluated and financial allocations monitored to maintain proper budget and forecasting success.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Duplicate processes were eliminated and I streamlined procedures within company guidelines. At this time, Y2K was a concern, and I resolved any technical issues to kiosks that might have Y2K impacts before they were realized.
