Power Systems are available in different ranges like low-end, mid –range and high-end suitable for all applications. The Objective of MPV (Maintenance Package Verification) test is to test the system response for hard bugs placed on different components (Input/Output, Flexible Service Processor, Power module) of the Server and also to verify the service documents package those will be provided to the customer for debug and repair. The project activity involves stressing the system for 12-48 hours with injecting various types of errors into Fault Isolation Registers using eInject tool.

Responsibilities:

Identify Test scenarios in various server areas like FSP, IO, Power Supply and Regulator units with the help of developers in respective areas.

Co-ordinate with developers in identifying new hard bugs and analyzing bug points using allegro and winngd tools

Configuration of different expansion units to servers

IBM Power Systems RAS

RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) test include verification of Recoverable and non-Recoverable errors. Error injection can be handled through the injecting tools like Cronus and eInject. The system can be recovered from the fail state for recoverable injects but for non-recoverables there is executive involvement required to make system reliable with the built-in service documents. Errors are injected in different subsystems of server like Memory, Processor, L2/L3 Cache, IO hub using error inject tools. Mainly allocating the resources from the free pool dynamically and micro partitioning, virtualisation makes the system available to the user all time. Servicing the system for the errors can be done using the repair and verification documents available in the management console and also in the public documents placed in IBM repository.

Validation of functions specific to Automatic Processor Recovery i.e., allocation of spared processors from the shared processor pool during processor fail in runtime by injecting errors on fabric bus, cache memory and Time base registers.

To test communication between server and IO subsystem by Host Bridge Chip using error inject tools like eInject and Cronus.

Validation of RAS features of IO controller chips like Enterprise and Galaxy by error injects on different fault isolation registers.

Use IBM proprietary tools for system testing of IBM servers
