Customer DB testing is a part of BBDSSA in which ETL validation as well as reports validation need to be tested on customer data. This testing is carried out on various platforms like Solaris, Linux, Windows and DBs like Oracle 10g & SQL Server 2K5, 2K8. After product installation, ETL validation has been carried out on Customer DB data. Once ETL is done, data is validated between source and warehouse (Target). Then, Reports validation is carried out against warehouse using SQL. Also as per customer scenarios, different – different custom reports generated on Cognos and validated.

BIR gets its data from all HBOS corporate business main systems like Corporate Operational Systems and regulatory systems .It delivers the MI and business intelligence reports to the user via Business objects and SAS.

In the current environment BIR uses Oracle 9i as database and it is resides on a Unix server. The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and the UK banking industry agreed to set-up a new payments facility which would operate for processing the instructions within same day between the banks. One of the major reasons to introduce this kind of payment scheme was to do away with Float alongside providing real time payment processing capability to the involved banks.

One phase of Project Faster Payments has been implemented successfully to cater the core functionality required by banks to meet the obligations towards the faster payment scheme. For Money Laundering prevention, Barclays Portugal has decided to use Fortent Anti Money Laundering transaction monitor. Data hub takes files for ETL processing from ‘Altimera’ source system (mainframe based) and processes them as per business rules using Ab-Initio as an ETL tool. Afterwards the processed files are sent to AML monitor, ‘FORTENT’.

The source feeds, from Altimera, are 31 in number. These source files are subjected to ETL transformations and 24 outbound files, to be sent to FORTENT, are obtained which are in the FORTENT specific format.

The TCIM (True Comp Incentive Management) application calculates and pays incentives for around 15000 WAMU employees (participants) who sell WaMu’s various plans in the Home loans Division. This incentive calculation (Pay cycles A&B) is done twice a month to cut the pay check on 15th and end of the month on the basis of payment groups, which are semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly and annual.

The TCIM application also caters to those WaMu employees who join in the middle of a pay cycle and also to those employees whose services are terminated during a pay cycle. There are numerous levels of hierarchy in WaMu where in the incentive of a person also depends on the performance of the persons reporting to him. The TCIM application also takes care of this requirement while calculating the incentives of an individual.

WaMu STeP DW was the first Data Warehouse/ETL testing ever carried out in Cognizant. This engagement covers System Integration Testing for loan originating system called ‘Consumer Direct-LOS’ and PeopleSoft with Data Mart. CD LOS (Impact) – Is a Consumer Direct Loan Origination system. New loans information will be received from LOS as a part of HI payload in the form of XML file. The validation of the XML file involves testing the XML file to verify if the data entered in the application is populated in the correct XPath as mentioned in the data mapping document. Afterwards, the workflow in Informatica run for the XML file to populate the tables in every layer of ETL for data extraction,cleaning,transformation and finally loading in the data mart. Testing of ETL stage involves testing of 3 ETL layers of the data warehouse such as landing layer, pre-staging layer and staging layer.

In testing data mart, data movement from staging layer tables to data mart tables is validated to check whether it happens accurately. Staging layer is a replica of data mart therefore record count for tables in staging layer and in data mart was validated.
