Project – “Reduction of electrical resistance variation in a 4 mm diameter glow plug”
Analyzed the processes involved in manufacturing glow plugs to identify the source of problem
Issue identified - The process of Gas Tungsten Arc welding, was identified as the cause for electrical resistance variation
Solution - Through statistical process control, current and electrode gap were optimized and variation in resistance was successfully reduced
ACADEMIC PROJECTS
“Simulation and Analysis of Shift Processes of a 6-speed FWD Automatic Transmission” Feb-Apr, 2017
Objective of the project was to simulate a smooth 1-2 shift for 6 speed AT using Matlab & Simulink
Collected data for a midsize car (Buick Lacrosse 2012 - eAssist), mathematical model was established for the transmission system governed by general, specific state variable equation for given initial conditions
Designed and integrated engine model, torque converter model, vehicle model in Simulink
The shifting function code and conditions for all the operating phases was developed using Matlab
Observed engine, transmission, clutch torque and angular velocity profiles with respect to time. The actuation of the oncoming clutch was controlled to maintain the torque hole and torque overshoot at an acceptable level. The shift process was calibrated several times to obtain a smooth shift
Simulated the model for up shift process beginning at 15mph with an open torque converter and a fixed throttle position of 30%. The total shift time was limited to 550ms
“Simulation in series hybrid electric vehicle and systems modeling” Jan-Feb, 2017
Developed a simulator for Series Hybrid Electric vehicles using Matlab
Implemented the Engine On/Off Control Strategy to maintain the Battery SOC between 0.3 to 0.8
Simulation was performed for 3 driving cycles, inputs for the simulation are the vehicle data, battery information, engine data
The operating points on the torque speed plane for the engine, motor and the engine were plotted
The instantaneous wheel torque and speed, the engine torque and speed, the battery power required, the cumulative battery energy, battery SOC, mileage and the MPGe are obtained for the 3 driving cycles
“Battery electric vehicle fuel consumption simulator” Feb-Mar, 2017
Developed a fuel consumption simulator for Battery Electric vehicles using Matlab
The simulation was performed for 3 different EPA driving cycles (city, highway and US06) using the vehicle data as input and obtained the instantaneous wheel torque and speed, the required motor torque and speed, battery power, State of charge, the cumulative battery energy and the MPGe for each driving cycle
“Case study on power flow control strategies in parallel HEV” Mar-Apr, 2017
Studied the configuration and operation modes in Planetary Gear system (PGS) strategy and Pontryagin’s minimum principle (PMP) strategy
Tested the strategies against the demands of four urban area driving cycles
Verified real-time implementation feasibility in Matlab
Results indicated reduction in fuel consumption could be attained from both the strategies
“Benchmarking and Preliminary Design Specifications” Feb, 2017
Conducted benchmarking and preliminary design specifications of target vehicle with the competitor vehicles with the help of Pugh diagram Analysis. Benchmarked vehicle: Nissan Altima 2016 SR
“Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Interface Analysis for a Selected Vehicle System” Mar, 2017
Prepared a QFD, developed an interface diagram and matrix. Cascaded the vehicle attributes and sub- attributes requirements to front door system of Nissan Altima 2016 SR
“Business Plan Development and Design Verification Plan” Apr, 2017
Proposed a business plan, sales projections and selling price for target vehicle based on customer needs, market survey. Prepared timing plan, gateways, milestones (V-model) and cost and revenue summary
Developed design verification plan (DVP) by doing robustness and reliability checklist, outlining the attribute, specific tests (clutch system) and acceptance criteria INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE
