Linux Systems Engineer / Network Administrator / Data Center Engineer Position Overview

Management of all Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers used for providing VoIP telephony services for governmental institutions at the city, county, state, and federal level. The Red Hat Enterprise Linux infrastructure is the backbone to the companies’ services they provide in the telecommunications industry. My position required me to work independent and alone. Primary duties and time spent working onsite or virtually managing our Dallas data center and all Linux based systems in our Houston data center. Provided support for all network layer 2 equipment such as the management of Cisco switches, VLAN’s on all Cisco switches and the physical layer of the network infrastructure. Designed and implemented a Red Hat Linux HA cluster for redundancy of the proprietary VoIP software utilized by our customers. Assist and maintain storage equipment such as NetApp and Oracle’s Axiom Storage systems through the network or direct connection via fiber optics. Implemented and maintained information security controls to ensure proper business continuity for the data center. Regularly performed audits to ensure that all systems implemented are protected and continuously monitored according to security guidelines and ensured that this policy remains applied to all servers in our PCI and DMZ zones.

IT Systems Engineer

Position Overview

Managed Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers for the research and development engineering department in the semiconductor industry. These Red Hat Enterprise Systems are part of the Sun Grid Engine (Oracle Computing Grid) for high performance computing power. I am the subject matter expert for all related Linux and grid computing systems for the engineers. I was responsible for managing and ensuring that each system was tuned to provided optimal performance when the engineers submitted their jobs for their synthesis tests and other tests required for testing the designed semiconductors before sending the optic-sensors to the fab. My responsibility was to build and deploy identical systems and join them to the distributed computing environment and maintain the overall functionality of the Linux grid system, which includes scheduling, correct allocation of resources, tuning each available resource, and the availability of the computing grid. The first task when starting with the company was working closely with the VP of Engineering and other key engineers to gather new requirements, design, test, and deployed a new distributed computing environment for the grid engine due to significant growth and higher demands that were required by the engineers. I was the subject matter expert for any technology that involved engineers network, computing environment, customizing and compiling required Linux kernels, virtualization, and the deployment and maintenance of all Red Hat Linux systems. Project leader in designing a secondary physical network for the engineers in the research and development department. This allowed for faster network services and segregation of network services from the main company network to make efficient use of all Linux systems. Key Responsibilities

Position Overview

American Precious Metals Exchange is a company that had a daily sales close to $1 million in selling precious metals and investing. Because of rapid growth, worked closely with software developers, IT Director and other department managers to analyze, design, and rebuild the infrastructure as all services were brought in house and outsourcing was eliminated. My main role during the project was to analyze the infrastructures baseline and redesign by implementing additional new servers. The redesign included creating a hot-site for redundancy and duplicating the office infrastructure.
