* 20+ years of hands-on mainframe experience *
Professional mainframe developer, with ninety percent (90%) of daily tasks performed utilizing the IBM mainframe to develop new COBOL programs and jobs, modifying existing production mainframe COBOL programs and jobs, or making changes to existing COBOL programs and jobs to add new, or modify current features and functionalities of the system being supported. This requires exceptional technical and analytical skills, with extensive knowledge in the design and development of applications and other technologies such as CICS, JCL, CA-Easytrieve, Syncsort utilities, TSO, and ISPF to name a few. Proficient in all afacets of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), such as writing Technical & Software Design (TSD) documents, coding new COBOL programs, and setting up new JCL members to unit test the COBOL programs. Communicates clearly in both verbal and written forms and builds strong working relationships within the team and other colleges across the company. Enthusiastic and willing to help motivate and mentor others. GOING THE EXTRA MILE
Lost Dollars Regained: Thousands of highly delinquent accounts were prematurely being marked as cured and sent inactive in the collection system. This occurred every day for almost four (4) months until the issue was found and rectified. While 3 other technical team members (2 being consultants from CGI, the vendor company) concluded the issue was being initiated by the application systems. I was not convinced of this, since there were no changes made to this process on the application side, so I continued to research the problem until the root cause was found. A mainframe sort utility that was used to empty out multiple files was no longer working as it used to, leaving one (1) file untouched. This was casing erroneous data to be merged in with valid weekly (Monday-Friday) data, thus updating delinquent accounts as cured. It was determined that the sort utility was altered when a version upgrade was applied to the mainframe zOS
(operating system). The issue was resolved by adding an additional step to the weekly job so only one (1) file would be processed by the sort utility in each step.
Production Issue resolved: ABENDS (Abnormal ENDS) were occurring night after night after the upgrade to the collection system was moved into production. The error report that was being produced out of the nightly batch cycle contained so many different errors messages it was impossible to scrutinize each and every one to determine which ones were the main contributors for the system to ABEND. In an attempt to stabilize the system as quickly as possible, I proactively wrote an Easytrive program that detailed the total number of errors along with the criticality of each one. The report gave managers insight into which errors where occurring most often, along with the criticality of each error. More importantly, the report supplied the technical team with the acute information needed to quickly address the most severe errors. The root cause for the ABEND was identified. The COBOL program(s) that were identified as being the main cause were changed to correct the problem which in turn stopped the error message(s) from being triggered. An emergency changman package was opened and an emergency fix was put into production to alleviate the system ABEND’s in the nightly batch cycle. The temporary changeman package was followed up with a permanent one shortly afterwards.

THE HUNTINGTON NATIONAL BANK (2000-2016) Columbus OH Mainframe Technical Specialist On-line Collections (2000-2013) Mainframe Sr. Programmer/Analyst Commercial Loans (2013-2016) Supported the Commercial Loan system (AFS) – Mainframe system Managed the day to day activities, resolved production issues and worked on tickets and projects submitted by the interfacing mainframe systems and the business area.
Developed and coded new COBOL and easytrieve programs to create critical financial history reports due to a company merger. All the data that was needed was spread across multiple files that would be manipulated to strip off the data needed and then concatenate the information together into one or multiple files. Once all the data was accessible a COBOL program would be executed to create a holistic representation of each accounts history prior to the accounts being moved onto the receiving companies systems. .
Selected to be a technical lead on a project to automate a tedious manual process to update the FFR rating code. CRRS (Credit Risk Rating System):Vertical Models (Energy) - Equalize Obligation FRR (Facility Risk Rating). Ensured the team worked very closely together with an open dialogue at all times. Due to the continuous communication and collaboration of the team this project was installed into production 3 months early. Supported the On-line Collection System (CACS) and Strata for collections – Hybrid System – This system used a thin client GUI (Graphical User Interface) as the user interface which resided on a server, however, all the data maintained for the system was housed on the mainframe.
Actively participated as the lead programmer/Analyst for the CACS system for 13 years. Heavily involved with all the designing, coding, testing and implementing into production of all softcares (vendor fixes), upgrades and customizations to the system.
Essential contributor for supporting and researching all business and functional issues that occurred within the system, including, but not limited to determining the Scope, requirements, technical design, mapping documents, testing and production implementation. During the past 5 acquisitions of other financial institutes, I developed, coded and tested COBOL conversion programs used to convert the other companies data into the CACS system.
Developed, coded and tested COBOL programs that interfaced to other applications within the organization, by extracting CACS data from the various databases used within the system, these included the demographic table, coded history table, history text tables, extract (or financial) table, etc. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
