Professional Experience

Mission Produce June 2015 to present

U.S Environmental Safety & Health Manager

* Responsible for the development, implementation, and training of the Safety and Health program to include all policies, procedures and programs for Mission Produce employees as well as oversee all temporary service companies across the United States. Oversight for safety practices, accident and workers’ compensation claims investigations, accident reporting procedures, compliance monitoring, record keeping and reporting processes to effectively reduce risk, increase safety awareness, and manage costs while optimizing productivity.

* Develop a set of goals for road mapping the company’s goal of ISO 14001 certification, and to establish Safety Management program 18001.

* Establish medical facilities for all locations in the United States, and develop a drug screening process. Removed, and replaced medical facilities that didn’t have the company’s best interest in mind.

* Created an injury reporting process from start to finish within 72 hours, trend analysis, and communicate to the Executive leadership team within 24 hours of notification. Investigated incidences with proper corrective actions to include tracking them to ensure completion.

* Held meetings every quarter with company’s workers compensation provider for keeping them on track to C&R to the companies benefit, and walkthroughs with the provider’s attorney’s, and case workers to ensure they asked the correct questions during depositions. These meeting helped with taking a loss ratio of 44% to 13%, and reduce cost by not going to trial.

* During the time in the position the program was responsible for lowering the OSHA rate from 8.74 to 1.00, and saved $125,000 from previous years in Workers comp cost.

* Established a training program in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment. Established new hire orientation training to include Lock out/Tag out, Hazardous communication, emergency preparedness, Environmental compliance (ISO 14001), and Ergonomics.

Kelly Services / Neutrogena Inc. July 2010 to June 2015

Safety Manager / Environmental specialist.

* Responsible for the development and implementation of Safety and Health policies, procedures and programs for the temporary workforce as well as oversee facility safety personnel and/or committees. Oversight for safety practices, accident and workers’ compensation claims investigations, accident reporting procedures, compliance monitoring, record keeping and reporting processes to effectively reduce risk, increase safety awareness, and manage costs while optimizing productivity.

* Work closely with Worker compensation insurance adjusters and on-site Health services department on all cases from first aid cases to 301 OSHA recordable, and investigation of the incidents.

* Develop safety and health policies, practices, and procedures throughout the facilities, and in compliance with governmental regulations including Federal, State, and local laws, and regulations develop and maintain emergency action plans for all facilities.

* Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment. Established new hire orientation training to include Lock out/Tag out, Hazardous communication, emergency preparedness, Environmental compliance (ISO 14001), and Ergonomics.

* Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data, and trend analysis related to occupational illnesses and accidents. Created a job safety analysis program to identify hazards related to the work they perform.

* Established a return to work program for the temporary employees, which results in no lost time accidents in three years. There have been no injuries from employees who have worked less than six months.

* Conduct daily inspections of the plant including all new construction projects. Created stretch cards by bringing in a personal trainer who supplied stretches based on tasks worked for all employees to use prior, during, and after their shift to reduce overexertion injuries.

* Reduced repetitive motion injuries, by rotating employees from one station to another.

* Created a tactical based safety program that has reduced workers comp cost savings of $450,000. The program has also reduced injuries by 63%. Severity of recordable injury have been lowered which results in lower OSHA rate. Took the plant from an average of 25 OSHA recordable a year to 10 for 2012. This is the lowest it has ever been recorded at this facility. 2013 is a great sustainable year, currently have 4 recordable.

* Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as other regulatory standards including, but not limited to EM 385.1, ANSI, NIOSH, NFPA, NEC, and DOT.

T.B Penick & Sons Construction Co. Inc. June 2009 to February 2010

Quality control Manager, June 2009 to February 2010:

* Served as quality control manager for $18 mil. Seabee Warehouse Mobilization Repair Project.

* Five-year NAVFAC Quality Control certification – exp. Aug. 2014. Trained and certified in the proper usage of the 385.1 Army Corp of engineers Safety manual, and the federal quality manager and assurance programs.

* Verified all sub-contractors’ submittals in accordance with prints, and specs, forwarding all requests for information to the government or architect for approval.

* Verified all materials used were exactly as specified in the plans and specifications, and were in accordance with current codes as required by American Welding Society, National Electrical Code, International Building Code, National Fire Code, etc.

* All submittals, Transmittals, RFI’S, and quality assurance dailies logged through Prolog project managing program.

* Scheduled all required inspections in accordance with project schedule.

* Reviewed all steel prints as resident expert for adding 12 tons of I-beam for extra earthquake protection for all warehouses, and the construction of two 40’x100’ Pre-engineered buildings with fire suppression.

Naval Construction Training Center, Port Hueneme June 2006 to June 2009

Facilities and Safety Manager, Feb 2007 to Aug 2008:

* Developed and implemented facilities management plan for NCTC, Port Hueneme, receiving two 2nd and one 1st place award for base-wide Area Coordinator Program in first, second and third quarters of fiscal year 2008.

* Worked cross-functionally with other tenant commands and private contractors to plan, schedule and track maintenance and construction performed under Naval Base Ventura County direction. Performed detailed

administrative and technical research and evaluation providing facility project documents and obtaining fundable estimates for work planned, and record them in MAXIMO tracking program.

* Developed, prepared, and justified annual budget for transportation, telecommunications, operations, maintenance, minor construction, and renovation projects.

* Coordinated $1.3 million renovations of four new “A” school mechanics classroom fitting 25 students including fire suppression system in accordance with NFPA and $125K electrical upgrade for 48 classrooms while installing a new computer lab.

* Researched, designed and implemented new command-wide energy conservation program saving NCTC almost $40K annually.

Assistant Command Hazmat/Safety Manager and Environmental Coordinator, Jan 2007 to June 2009:

* Assisted in the implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health program, traffic safety, recreational, and facilities safety in accordance with current OSHA standards, and EM 385.

* Performed weekly inspections of hazardous materials lockers and satellite stations, enforcing OSHA and Navy regulations in accordance with 40-CFR and OPNAV-5090. Coordinated annual inspections with outside entities to ensure safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials. Documented onsite inspections, tracking command hazardous materials.
