home and school settings. Making formula-
tions, treatment and care plans using coun-
selling and play based therapeutic interven-

In this post my time was shared equally
between management responsibilities and
casework. I managed a team of three social
workers whilst containing to practice and
hold the more complex cases referred to the
unit. Work of the unit included S17 and S47
child protection assessment and
investigation, formulating and writing CIN
interventions and plans, regularly reviewing
effectiveness of plans as a unit, assessing

and reviewing need and risk, court reports
and attendance and direct work. The
management part of my post
included: line management of 3 Social
Workers, overall responsibility for 40-50
cases, completing appraisals, staff
supervision, performance monitoring,
developing skills and knowledge within the
unit and ensuring professional
development of staff particularly in relation
to systemic practice.
