Program Director for Science Horizons & CareerBridge 09/01/2013 to Present

Develop, implement and oversee STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) related hands-on projects and curriculum at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School and Place at Prescott Elementary Schools.

Providing specific STEAM related lessons to approximately 500 students per month throughout the school year.

Recruit community partners, parents and High School students as interns to work in the elementary schools STEAM Lab.

Provide meaningful field trips and tours such as day and overnight Science Camps and Lawrence Berkeley Labs day of exploration.

Develop, implement and oversee College and Career Readiness Business Essential Workshops for McClymonds High School, Ralph Bunche Academy and Oakland International High Schools.

Prepare students for various types of internship programs, some are coupled with community mentors and students are offered entrepreneur exploration opportunities.

Identify employers and other partners who will provide meaningful internship positions for our students

Provide meaningful field trips and tours such as day and overnight Science Camps, Lawrence Berkeley Labs day of exploration, Federal Aviation Administration, various culinary business models, aquariums and historical museums to name a few.

Assist in fund raising for schools and non-profits.

Developed summer lunch program for culinary high school called “Bunches ‘Maican Lunches”. Students were taught via hand-on Accounting, Marketing, Customer Service, Food Handling Safety, and Business Administration along with how to cook, prep and provide a delivery service. Students prepared lunches, canvassed for customers and organized and managed a delivery service.

Develop, Implement and oversee math-tutoring program at Laurel and Piedmont Elementary Schools as well as oversee a robotics program at Roosevelt Middle School using community volunteers in the classroom.

Working from the wish list of school principals and staff, these services have provided gap-closures for many schools. Identifying community partners, establishing sustainable programs and enlisting student families has helped to create positive, safe, innovative learning stations for our youth and exposes them to various STEAM related career paths.

I manage one employee and an average of 50 student interns.

Public Information Officer

Community Outreach and Educational Manager

With more than 12+ year’s experience, Margena M. Wade-Green has expertise in public relations, management consulting, project management and general administration. Margena was in charge of the public information office for bridge and roadway demolition, closure and resurfacing work for the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. She spearheaded community outreach for the Auxiliary Water Supply System (AWSS) project in San Francisco and coordinated a project involving two underwater vehicular tunnels connecting Oakland and Alameda, California, Posey-Webster Tube.

Margena responded to inquires, advocated for the community, developed communications plans, established relationships with stakeholders and managed up to 50 workers during outreach campaigns. In addition to facilitating and presenting seminars, programs and information to the community she provided services to contractors to meet state and federal contract procurement goals, designed networking patterns to increase contract participation and tracked project progress. Margena maintained project documentation, processed expense reports and payroll and reconciled contractual accounts. She also administered the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program for Northern California.

California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Various Simultaneous Projects, San Francisco and Oakland, CA. Public Information Manager/Community and Educational Outreach Liaison

SFOBB South-South Detour of SFOBB (Project 0120R4) includes 3-day Bay Bridge Closure (Project 0120S4. SFOBB SAS (Self-Anchored Suspension of the Bay Bridge (Project 0435E1) – SFOBB West approach Landscaping Project. SFOBB Oakland Touchdown Projects, Phases 1 & 2 (Project 0120L3).

Simultaneously, Margena has provided continuous community and educational outreach to the regional community relative to the SFOBB work, traffic impacts, benefits and overall knowledge and understanding of the SFOBB project. She provides media support for the team and is the alternate spokesperson. Margena assists with ongoing contract client negotiations and maintains work site contract compliance relative to safety, cost expenditures and modifications.

She has developed and executed the outreach and communications guidelines for all the Bay Bridge projects. She has incorporated community-based organizations and schools with the Bay Bridge team efforts to expand outreach and building auxiliary workforces. She developed job descriptions and manages and coordinates summer interns and their assignments.

In addition, Margena has developed and organized a five-volume educational booklet package for schools and advocates of the Bay Bridge to use as a teaching tool and keepsake. She also helps develop content for website pages on BayBridgeinfo.org and continues to promote and contribute to the development of the SFOBB social media coordination. She is responsible for recruiting Bay Bridge workers to become volunteers in the community, as well as organizing communities to become ambassadors of the SFOBB. Currently, she is developing a pilot ambassador program that involves using retired engineers and teachers to present at community meetings and schools. (2004-Present)

Caltrans, SFOBB West Approach and Major Milestones Project (04A8968 Task Order 1 SFOBB Seismic), Oakland, CA Public Information Officer

On behalf of the Caltrans Office of Structure Construction, Margena handled all major milestones within the project, including demolition of the Fremont and Harrison off-ramp (7U North), a major section of freeway, resulting in five consecutive weekend closures and eastbound I-80, closing the Bay Bridge over two Labor Day weekends and causing businesses, residents and motorists to be affected statewide.

Margena acted as a liaison for affected San Francisco communities and the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, Golden Gate Transit and AC Transit during turnover of State of California parcels for the building of the Transbay Terminal and bus storage facilities. She also managed a full-service public information office, where she responded to inquiries and advocated for the community and Caltrans. In addition to remaining on-call 24 hours a day, Margena developed a communications plan to saturate the community with information and handouts.

Margena performed door-to-door canvassing to build relationships and trust with stakeholders, attended and facilitated community meetings to mitigate concerns and advocated on the community’s behalf at weekly meetings with Caltrans staff and contractors. As well as supervising six office assistants, she worked closely with senior management, resident engineers and inspectors, served on the Risk Management Team and developed outreach plans for Bay Bridge closures. Caltrans, SFOBB West Span and Related Projects (04A2968) Task Order 1 SFOBB Seismic) Oakland, CA Public Information Manager

Margena assisted the Caltrans Office of Structure Construction throughout the West Span project. Related projects included deck resurfacing and Project 18 rivet removal, which involved removing old rivets and replacing them with millions of pounds of high-strength bolts. Both projects created nighttime noise and affected traffic flow for evening commuters and Treasure Island residents.

Margena performed outreach to both Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island residential and business communities because they were connected by or located in the middle of the Bay Bridge. Her duties included drafting outreach fact sheets to distribute to the community, media and motorists; establishing an e-mail subscriber database; organizing, facilitating and presenting at community meetings and providing graphics and DVDs to media. During the outreach campaigns, Margena managed 50 workers at a time.

In addition to maintaining a public information office that was open daily to the public, Margena was available on-call 24 hours a day for stranded motorists. She also established community relationships with the community-based organizations that provided assistance to the homeless, unemployed and rehabilitating citizens of San Francisco and the Bay Area. Caltrans, SFOBB Treasure Island Projects (04A2968 Task Order 1 SFOBB Seismic), Oakland, CA, Public Information Manager

On behalf of the Caltrans Office of Structure Construction, Margena worked on Multiple Treasure Island projects, including the SFOBB East Span, South-South Detour, Oakland Touch-Down and YIBITS Transition Span. Her community outreach efforts included developing flyers, fact sheets, public announcements and an e-ma data base (which reached thousands of stakeholders).

Margena also facilitated public and media outreach meetings, presented community outreach efforts to media and other constituents and established distribution methods for disseminating information to local, regional and statewide communities. In addition to responding to requests from media for interviews, tours and access, she served as the Public Information Manager for Community Relations for the SFOBB project and the Assistant to the SFOFF Media Public Information Officer (PIO). 2008

Caltrans Auxiliary Water Supply Systems (AWSS) Project, Oakland, CA Public Information Officer

On behalf of Caltrans District 4, Margena was responsible for community outreach efforts during a water line replacement project. She responded to public and internal inquiries relative to community impact, coordinated and presented community outreach activities and prepared communications materials such as brochures, public announcements, media packets and regional mailers. Caltrans, Posey and Webster Street Tubes, Alameda to Oakland Project, I-580/680 Interchange, Mandela Parkway, Oakland, CA, Project Coordinator

Working directly under the management and direction of the senior bridge engineer and structure representative, Margena maintained Caltrans contractor correspondence files. Included Notices of Proposed changes (NOPCs), request for information (RFIs) and structure and district correspondence. In addition to processing purchase orders and contract documents, her duties consisted of document control, record keeping and time keeping. Margena also worked with other Caltrans staff to coordinate collective information and job site issues. (2003-2004)

Caltrans Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and Small businesses, Margena assisted small business owners with state certification. She provided services to contractors to meet state and federal contract procurement goals, facilitated workshops and developed networking patterns designed to promote and increase contract participation.
