Junior Specialist

Apr. 2006 - June 2010

University of California,

Center for Molecular and Mitochondrial Medicine and Genetics (MAMMAG),

Irvine, CA

. Conducted scientific research in human mitochondrial genetics, genetic

variation, human population history, evolution, aging, and mitochondrial

medicine with a primarily focus on the role of mtDNA variation in

metabolic disorders (such as Type II Diabetes Mellitus and Metabolic

Syndrome).

immortalized, cybrids). Characterized physiology of created cell lines

and assessed their mitochondrial function using advanced cell biology

techniques.

. Worked in CLIA-certified/reference lab, part of the Center, on

developing and optimization of clinical diagnostic SOPs for DNA

analysis for the patients with suspected mitochondrial disease;

organized workflow for research part of IRB study, performed molecular

tests optimization and validation; consulted on mitochondrial

haplotyping and interpretation of genetic analysis results.

. Developed, tested, evaluated, and troubleshot new protocols and methods

of molecular analysis.

. Consulted/trained other researchers, visiting scholars, and students.
