Headed the newly created Information Technology Department in an R&D facility that designed cellular and digital wireless phones. Worked with building contractors, computer system maintenance providers, and move coordinators to ensure a smooth transition. Replaced Halon system with a Pre-action system in the new facility due to liability concerns.
Maintained a dedicated T-1 to our factory until 1999, then directly to Panasonic corporate in Japan. Implemented a new T-1 connection to the Internet in 2000.
Justified and implemented a Polycom 512/H.323 videoconference system with 3 BRI lines and a scan converter for presentations with remote offices in the UK and Japan.
Implemented an AG Communications Roameo Wireless Office System using TDMA service in 1999. Coordinated replacement of it in early 2004 with a T-Mobile GSM Base Station.

System Manager for a DEC VAX 6510 running ULTRIX 4.6 from 7/95 to 10/96. Setup accounts, wrote backup scripts, and maintained disk volumes and system security. Planned and implemented the migration of corporate data from the VAX with DEC Pathworks to Windows NT.
In late 1995, justified and implemented 100 Mb networking, and added an HP K220 server running HP-UX 10.0 in the mechanical design environment in November of 1995 in order to eliminate network bottlenecks. Supported CASE software on two Sun Sparcstations and SDRC Ideas 3-D modeling and drafting software on 14 HP 9000 model 700 workstations.
Specified and implemented a modem share system that utilized eight modems over IPX, which brought Internet access to the desktop in early 1996. Later justified an NT server running Microsoft Proxy Server through a 128Kb BRI in 1997.

System Manager for four Silicon Graphics Indigo 2’s, five DECstation 3100’s, eight various Apollo's, one HP 425, one Sun Sparc 10, two Microvax II’s, and several 486 PC’s running UNIX, VMS, and DOS Windows respectively. Created user accounts, wrote backup scripts and timesaving routines for users, and maintained and monitored systems. Also responsible for all Electrical Design Libraries on Mentor and Viewlogic as well as Printed Circuit Board CAD (Scicards) Schematic Capture (Mentor) and 3-D Solids Modeling and drafting (SDRC) Software support. Also secured these systems and prevented unauthorized access.
In 1992, a system security audit of the systems I personally managed was performed by an independent consultant using the COPS program found that the systems I administered demonstrated a higher level of security than the IBM mainframes and Burroughs systems maintained by MIS department.
Utilizing Fortran on an ULTRIX DECstation and DCL on a VAX 6310, wrote interfaces between PCB CAD and Schematic CAE to Manufacturing, including Panasert dip, axial and radial insertion machines; Fuji CPII, HP and IP SMT placement machines; Zehntel Functional Test model 810 systems and HP model 3070 testers. This reduced manufacturing systems programming times by a factor of 20. Errors decreased from 10% to .5%.
Produced several User Requirements Specifications, and helped to develop these specifications into programs and utilities needed to make CAE systems more functional and efficient.
Specified and helped to implement an in-house Engineering Components database based on Oracle in 1993. Automated nightly uploads of changes, and managed this database in Oracle.
Justified and implemented four new Silicon Graphics Indigo 2’s for SDRC Mechanical 2D and 3D-design software in 1994. Served as the System Administrator for these systems.
Cost justified a replacement for the Mentor CAE tools. Expenditures of $200K were recouped in the first six months and reduced Time to Market by 20%.
