Leadership Philosophy
I encourage, support, and mentor associates to achieve goals within the community, family, personal and professional environments by expanding their experience as well as education to lead public, private, and governmental entities by demonstrating achievement and accomplishment.
The leadership positions that have impacted my life personally and professionally are Head Start Director, Domestic Violence Coordinator, and Instructor for the Field Artillery Captains Career Course. Each of these positions has allowed me to serve as a mentor, leader, and influence opinion and perception. These positions have served as culminating events during different points of my career and prepared me for the next phase.
After years of experience and education, three core values have emerged. The values are cooperation, collaboration, and communication. The theme of the three Cs gives substance and responsibility to individuals, teams, and groups. The theme also provides empowerment to associates when developing strategies and conducting planning. An unrestricted operational setting presents the team with the capability to share and expand knowledge, skills, and experience.
Associates and colleagues like to be appreciated and recognized for accomplishments as well as achievements. A compliment or thank you can continue to build confidence and continue to build mutual trust.
“Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.” Colin Powell
Colin Powell’s quote holds true to every belief and value that I have ever held. The essence of the statement supports my philosophy, core values, and mentoring skills. We are all leaders; however, we must define what type of leader we are and the leader we aspire to be.
