EXPERIENCE

HB Fuller Company, Minneapolis, MN 2013 to 2016

Senior Application Specialist

Designed and formulated products containing water borne polymers. These include pressure sensitive acrylic adhesives and coatings.

Experience with formulating various coatings such as flame retardant binders and paints.

Analytical techniques include DSC, IR, DMA, HAAKE, particle size analysis, intrinsic viscometer, tensile and elongation, QUV and various testing equipment specific to coatings.

Partnered with customers on new and existing products. Successfully developed a novel flame retardant non-woven binder.

Worked closely with sales to successfully resolve customer complaints.

Collaborated with the manufacturing group to identify complex interactions that effect viscosity and solutions to control product specifications. This allowed manufacturing to post treat and rescue over 750,000 pounds of in-process materials which represents over $500,000.

Presentation of technical papers to Tech Forum on the effect of pH on Polyethylene Imine in water based acrylic polymers.

Loparex, LLC Inc. Hammond, WI 2010 - 2011

Senior process engineer

Proactively performed production equipment upgrades as a measure to reduce downtime and increase efficiency.

Process optimization including batch processes to increase pot life and reduce waste.

Maintain weekly waste/yield targets. This data is presented during the morning engineering meeting to formulate a manufacturing response.

TERENCE P. JOHNSON, Page 2

Completed Green belt project which reduced waste by identifying and controlling web breaks. This project resulted in a 5% reduction in web breaks. This produced a yearly savings of $750,000 in raw materials, man-hours and lost opportunity on 100% utilized coating line.

Conducted operator training which included a 5S program.

Customer complaint response and root cause analysis. Consistently met the five-day response and resolution target.

Practiced FMEA- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis Six Sigma tool to identify root cause failures.

Higher Dimensions, Inc. Oakdale, MN 2010 Manufacturing Engineer

Provided production scheduling and coordination of three burden centers.

Implemented company safety policies and OSHA compliance.

Partnered with Human Resources in Screening, interviewing and hiring qualified candidates.

Establish job descriptions for each operation center. These include batch processing, roll to roll manufacturing and finished goods operations. These descriptions allowed better identification of candidates and cross training of work force.

Execute disciplinary actions as required to address performance issues.

Keep all equipment up to date on preventative maintenance to ensure proper operation and maintain efficiency.

New equipment specification and acquisition to increase production capacity. Communicated with new equipment manufacturers and surplus suppliers to ensure best value for the expense.

Principal Engineer for rotary (roll to roll) printing.

Directed day to day start up and shut down procedures to maximize productive uptime to meet manufacturing targets on time and in full.

Verification of final product quality which conformed to release specifications. This was done through physical testing and microscopic evaluation.

Conducted and identified overall machine maintenance and proper operator staffing.

Implemented 6S lean throughout production floor.

Bergquist Company, Cannon Falls, MN 2008 - 2009

Process Development Engineer.

Developed and formulated thermally conductive adhesives for use in computer processors (Intel). This process included developing a filler treatment that increased cohesive strength of final product. Process increased final parts yield from 45% to 90%.

Performed or Developed Precision two roll coating of silicone systems. Improvements made to resin delivery system that eliminated feed stock phasing which greatly reduced down web caliper and basis weight variance.

Traveled to Japan to perform supplier audit on product critical raw materials.

3M Company, Maplewood, MN

Product Engineer 1981-2008

Developments of hot melt urethane adhesive to replace stitching on intimate apparel. Create formulated novel chemistries to be adapted to the apparel industry.

Developed processing techniques to allow new materials to be utilized by customers. This resulted in a drop in replacement product without the need for new equipment.

TERENCE P. JOHNSON, Page 3

Traveled to the U.K. to learn apparel business and techniques in materials development. Developed automotive headliner attachment systems including water based adhesives to non-woven substrates.

Senior Product Development Engineer

Process development on optically clear adhesive films for LCD screens for cell phones. Rotary rod die coating in class 100 clean room conditions. Commercialized conductive adhesive films. First year sales exceeded $500K.

Development of electrically and thermally conductive films including process development and optimization of formulation and manufacturing processes.

Senior Research Engineer Industrial Tape Division and Bonding Systems Division. Worked on product development of high performance multi-layer thermoset adhesives for circuit boards. Formulated 100% solids one-part reactive epoxy adhesives. Developed coating techniques to make zero-defect film adhesives using precision coating techniques.

Additional roles at 3M

Various 3M labs and pilot plants. Technical service specialist in support of ceramic material sales group. Customer response through phone calls and extensive travel to on–site locations including international locations.
