Longview School District, Longview, WA August 2016 – Present

Human Resources Director

Responsible for the Human Resource needs of a school district of 875 employees. Five direct reports who address all of the staffing, classification, certification, recruitment and leave of absence needs of the organization. Responsible for union contract negotiations and interpretations for four different unions.

Settled the Labor Agreement with the SEIU with many changes benefitting the school district by a vote of 105 to 87.

Led the way to rearranging the way work is done in the District HR office to help current staff understand we can perform without adding additional staff.

Developing the negotiations plan for the Local Education Association bargain to occur during the spring of 2017.

Successfully settled multiple grievances through constructive discussions with the employees and their Union reps.

Quickly gained the confidence of the District Leadership Team and the School Board Directors.

Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Wauna, OR and Camas, WA June 2008 - June 2016

Senior Human Resources Manager

Managed Labor Relations, Employee Relations, Recruiting, and Policy Development and Administration in a Union Mills of 900 and 500 employees respectively producing towel, tissue and photo copy paper.

Settled outstanding arbitrations stemming from a disagreement on the application of seniority before proceeding to arbitration. Prevailed in a termination of employment of a long-term employee who committed an egregious safety violation by working closely with Company Management and Legal Counsel to process.

Led way in proactively addressing labor relations issues for the Mill with grievance load dropping from 120 in 2008 at the Wauna Mill to 14 in 2011 and from 35 plus at the Camas Mill in 2011 to an average of 14 from 2012 forward by modeling and encouraging factual, data-based discussions when addressing alleged labor agreement violations. In addition, significantly reduced the hours of Union/Management meetings held to process grievances by consolidating into fewer meetings.

Provided Labor Relations expertise to the Management Staff and the local elected Representatives of AWPPW Local 5.

Investigated and brought to resolution numerous harassment claims by working closely with the employees and their elected representatives to seek solutions that would appropriately address the issues.

Handled a number of potentially volatile terminations maintaining a calm and business like atmosphere. All related agency charges have been dismissed upon review.

Served as Company Spokesman during regular monthly Joint Union/Management meetings and on an as needed basis to address Labor Agreement issues.

Recruited for Salaried and Hourly Pulp and Paper Mill openings utilizing GP Applicant Tracking Software (ATS) programs to source, identify and select the best talent.

Coached Managers and Supervisors in effective interaction management with their employees resulting in better relationships and more positive changes in performance.

Cleared up existing backlog and managed the Mill Job Analysis procedure to adhere to Labor Agreement requirements while placing the burden of preparation on the Union.
