Summary
Innovative and collaborative information technology leader with over two decades of experience utilizing technology to deliver value and accomplish the objectives of the organization. Currently looking for challenging opportunities in the enterprise and information architecture domains to which I can apply my experience and expertise.
Leader, Enterprise Data Architecture at Johnson Controls, 2014 2016 Joined Johnson Controls as a member of Project Unity; an enterprise wide 7 year, $1.2 billion investment intended to transform the business through process harmonization and consolidation of 300+ ERPs to a global SAP instance. As leader of the Enterprise Data Architecture team, delivered the Enterprise Information Management (EIM) Reference Architecture that enabled and supported the Project Unity objectives as well as the overall enterprise data management objectives for the organization. The reference architecture identified design methodologies and provided solutions to provide for new capability and modernize existing capabilities. Capabilities of note included:
master data management,
data governance,
enterprise business intelligence,
data co-existence strategy,
data as a service foundation,
multi-temperature data lake,
enterprise data vaulting,
metadata management
business glossary,
enterprise data warehousing,
virtual datamarts,
ingestion framework,
business process modeling,
and data archive strategies
Using the EIM Reference Architecture (EIM-RA) as the blueprint and roadmap; I was responsible for the creation, evaluation and selection of the Hadoop ecosystem portion of the $100M+ Unity infrastructure services RFP. The Hadoop portion of the RFP focused on delivery of infrastructure and administration services as a set of modern managed platform services to support data lake, data vaulting, ingestion framework, data as a service (DaaS) and data archive capabilities. The outcome was delivery of an enterprise class Hadoop cluster based on a Hortonworks distribution and Suse OS over an eighty-node commodity architecture. Cluster based services delivered included; integrated identity provisioning, Ambari administration portal, Hive, HBase, and Spark. Adjacent EIM-RA capabilities such as Business Objects Data Services, Native HANA, and Business Objects Information Steward integrated with the Hadoop services provided the foundation for project team delivery. Utilizing the standards, methodologies and design patterns created by Data Architecture team enabled the Data Center of Excellence to meet challenging and dynamic business objectives.
In the area master data governance and management my team delivered a Supplier Management solution pilot in 90 days based on the new reference architecture. Working closely with our technology partner, SAP, the solution leveraged capabilities of HANA to support improved search and in-memory performance. This solution was instrumental in validating a master data “Pull-Forward” strategy for Project Unity which would result in a reduced change management effort, and had mitigated technology risks. The strategy would also allow for value to be delivered to the business far earlier than planned over the project’s lifespan. The team continued to build on the pilot and delivered a deployment ready master data management platform based on the SAP MDG/HANA/Fiori technology stack within the next four months. Wayne Hofman
