I am an MBA qualified senior procurement professional with over 20 years food and manufacturing experience within fast paced, often pressurised purchasing environments. I believe myself to be a strong contract negotiator with a proven track record in exceeding all set targets. Professional Experience

January 2014 – Present Head of Purchasing Brace’s Bakery Limited. Newport.

Brace’s Bakery is the leading bread supplier in South Wales and South West. I’m responsible for purchasing all direct and indirect spends across 2 sites and Stores on each site. I have a team of 4 reporting in to me. Spend last year on direct materials was just under £12M across 40 suppliers.

Achievements

Responsible for changes on packaging, due to new food legislation requirements.

Generated £100K savings on ingredients spend within my first year.

Will achieve savings of £850K for the coming year, this will be achieved by negotiating 4 supplier agreements and increasing spend with existing suppliers with the items supplied from the vendors I’ve reduced.

Negotiated a new mobile phone contract, which generated £16K savings over 3 years and increased the hardware fund from £3K to £24K. Negotiated a new photocopier contract generating £18K savings over 3 years.

Reduced inventory across the sites by £110K.

Agreed a 6 month fixed price diesel contract, which will generate £30K savings.

June 2011 – Oct 2013 (redundant) Supply Chain Manager British Rototherm Ltd. Margam.

Rototherm is a world leader in the manufacturing of industrial instrumentation supplying into the oil and gas. I was responsible for purchasing, planning and stores and had a team of 7. Purchasing spend of £2M per annum across 20,000 parts and 120 suppliers. Joining the company I was heavily involved with the introduction of the new Syteline ERP system.

Achievements

Outsourcing of painted parts from the internal paint plant within 4 weeks of starting the project.

Outsourced over 150 machined parts from our internal machine shop.

£80K savings in my first 18 months and £40k in the first half of 2013.

Negotiated 3 supply agreements which have placed parts on call off.

Restructured the Stores and Purchasing function reducing the headcount by 2.

£150k stock reduction within 12 months and set up a team to continue the reduction of stock.

Renegotiated supplier credit terms with our top 10 suppliers.

Implement KPI’s for the department, which weren’t being monitored before I joined.

On joining the organisation I wrote a report on the existing state of the department and what I wanted as the future state and reported this to the MD

Coached Buyers on purchasing best practises and on what I expected from them behaviourally (no politics and supporting other departments)

June 2006 – May 2011 Purchasing Manager Fike Safety Technology Ltd., Cwmbran.

Fike Safety Technology Ltd is a manufacturer of fire detection systems with a turnover of £5.9 million and a purchasing spend of £1.9 million. I had 3 direct reports to me (1 Planner and 2 Store persons)

Achievements

I implemented 3 kanban agreements with the moulding, cardboard and PCB board suppliers

Negotiated 6 supply agreements improving the credit and freight terms and ensuring suppliers hold buffer stocks.

In my final year I was involved with 24 New Product Introductions

I implemented consignment stock holding agreement on all SMT passives (over 250 parts).

I worked with R&D on introducing new models, in my first year I saved the company £110K, second year £100K, third year £30K and my last year £65K.

December 2003 – June 2006 Head Buyer Invacare Limited, Bridgend.

The company operates in the medical sector with a £32 million turnover within the UK. I was part of the senior management team reporting to the Managing Director responsible for a spend of £4.5 million. I also managed 5 Planners on a stock reduction programme.

Achievements

Leading the team to outsource primary manufacturing. I transferred 2 bed lifters and a complete power wheelchair from Bridgend to the Far East, generating £750k savings a year.

I was £44k above my PPV target for the year.

I also negotiated the sale of the production rights of an Invacare product (C800 ceiling hoist)

I re-negotiated all payment terms with all suppliers where spend was over £30k from 45 days net to 60 days end of month.

10% reduction of vendors.

I worked closely with the European Sourcing Managers on achieving cost reduction programmes with UK and other facilities.

Commodities purchased Castings, machined turned parts. I was also given the laser commodity as these were the most critical and complex items purchased in the factory.
