EXPERIENCE
Bechtel National Inc., Reston, VA March 2015 – Present Civil/Structural Engineer
§ Civil/Structural Engineer responsible for developing design analysis calculations for steel and concrete structures, systems and components for a one of a kind Multi-Billion dollar project.
§ Prepare design load calculations needed for structures, system and components design.
§ Develop finite element model (FEM) for structural analysis of steel structural systems, including seismic analysis required by codes and standards.
§ Prepare steel member design and welded and bolted connection detail design applying all applicable commercial codes and standards.
§ Develop a design that will allow the adjustment needed in the structural steel modularization process of the project.
§ Checker and responsible engineer for structural steel drawings (plans, sections and details).
§ Responsible for coordination between disciplines to achieve a quality product and schedule objectives.
§ Contribute to the project team in order achieve solutions and standardized process to complete activities of the schedule on time and within budget.
§ People-based quality observer responsible for obtaining feedback of other employees to improve the quality and process of the project.
University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, Mayagüez, PR August 2012 – December 2014 Thesis Research Project - NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF SEISMIC SOIL PRESSURES ON RIGID WALLS
§ Developed a finite element numerical model using OpenSees to capture the soil structure interaction of building walls (rigid walls) in an earthquake event.
§ Evaluated current code equations/methodologies by comparison with the results from the numerical models.
§ Examined the effects of input motions with different characteristics (records compatible with a deterministic earthquake scenario and records compatible with a uniform hazard spectrum) in the induced seismic pressures. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-ERDC-GSL-IEEB, Vicksburg, MS June 2011 – August 2011 Research Assistant
§ Evaluated structural response of double reinforced concrete walls due to detonation of various explosive charges. The purpose was to develop a better understanding of the synergistic effect of airblast and fragments on wall damage.
§ Assisted the principal investigator in field preparation along with data collection for each experiment.
§ Responsible for analyzing the data collected and developing comparisons and plots of the data. University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, Mayagüez, PR August 2009 – December 2009 Investigative Study
§ Parametric study of the resistance to flexion and shear force in double reinforced concrete beams.
§ Calculated the quantity of steel reinforce needed in the beam and determine the nominal resistant of flexion of a beam.
§ Developed a program, in VBA language, to house our findings for the use of rectangular concrete beams. Guajataka Boy Scouts Camp, San Sebastian, PR May 2007 – July 2012 Instructor
§ Instructor for various courses including ornithology, herpetology, ecology and astronomy.
§ Led and managed courses for children and young adults on general ecological knowledge and interaction.
§ Mediated conflict resolutions between multiple individuals when they occurred.
§ Determined schedules for group ensuring time was used efficiently and that all tasks and courses took place without problems. KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
§ Language: Spanish and English
§ Software: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, MatLab, and AutoCAD. Intermediate knowledge of SAP 2000, VBA Programming Language for Excel and GTStrudl.
