WORKING EXPERIENCES
2002 - Present Title: Assistant Manager/Research Scientist II
Employer: Biomolecular Research Facility proteomics core laboratory, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology,
University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas.
Job duties: Established the proteomics core laboratory according to the principle investigator’s directives. Develop HPLC methods for analysis and separation of proteins, peptides and biological mixtures. Conduct 2D gel electrophoresis and related methodologies, and operate proteomic robotics for downstream protein identifications by MALDI-TOF and data base search. Develop CE methods for analysis of clinical serum or plasma samples in the study of clinical proteomics. Advise, collaborate, and train on/off campus researchers in running and imaging 1D and 2D gels with different instruments. Maintain instruments and handle billings for the lab.
1995 - 2002 Title: Research Scientist
Employer: Introgen Therapeutics, Inc., Houston, Texas.
Job duties: Developed HPLC methods for analyses of the production, purification, and formulation of the adenovirus encoding the human p53 gene (Adp53). Characterized Adp53 in aqueous and lyophilized formulations with HPLC, bioactivity assay. Developed analytical assays to support studies of non-viral gene delivery, including online monitoring of plasmid DNA production and characterization of liposome/DNA-liposome complexes by HPLC, particle size analysis, gel-electrophoresis, and in vitro/vivo gene uptake studies. Interfaced with QC and QA groups to transfer developed HPLC assays for applications in QC group.
1994 - 1995 Title: Research Scientist
Employer: GeneMedecine, Inc. Woodlands, Texas.
Job Duties: Synthesized and purified hetero-bi-functional cross-linking reagents, small peptide residues and sugar derivatives as targeting ligands for gene delivery. Characterized the reagents and ligands by HPLC, NMR (1H or 13C), FTIR, UV-vis, and mass spectrometry.
1992 - 1994 Title: Senior Research Assistant
Employer: Department of Clinical Investigation, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, Houston, Texas.
Job Duties: Synthesized and purified a variety of anticancer drugs including their radioactive analogs. Established the identity and chemical structure of the drugs by various spectral techniques including NMR (1H and 13C), UV-vis, mass spectrometry and HPLC. Studied the covalent modification of DNA via the sugar moiety of doxorubicin using HPLC in conjunction with radiochemical methods. Studied the toxicity of the drugs on mice.
1988 - 1992 Title: Research Assistant (Graduate Student)
Employer: Department of Chemistry, University of Houston, Houston, Texas.
Research Projects: Synthesized and purified a series of (ap)4Rh2-R compounds, where ap = 2-anilinopyridinate and R = -(CºC)2Si(CH3)3, -CH3, -CH=CH2, -CºCH and -(CºC)2-Rh2(ap)4. The structures of these compounds were identified by X-ray crystallography and mass spectrometry. The compounds were studied by electrochemistry (cyclic voltammetry), ESR, FTIR, and UV-vis spectroscopy.
1986 - 1988 Title: Research Assistant (Graduate Student)
Employer: Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois.
Research Project: Investigated the reaction of Re2Cl4(PEt3)4 with ethyl chloride and hydrogen chloride under different conditions to establish a mechanism for the formation of [PEt4][Re2Cl6(PEt3)2H].
