Key Achievements

Introduced superior billing system. Home Care division of NYC Health + Hospitals used Epic medical records software for billing services. A clearing house was required to submit bills to Medicare, NYS Medicaid and commercial carriers. Made successful business case with Senior VP of Finance supporting addition of clearing house process. Enabled NYC Health + Hospitals to bid and negotiate a contract for services meeting Epic install requirements. Reduced normal contracting process from more than nine months to just 3.5 months.

Assured success of major software installation. POM Recoveries’ new billing and reporting system for Southampton Hospital was not meeting the hospital’s specifications. Worked with software developer to modify program installed during $5M project to provide necessary information. Facilitated developer’s being able to enhance and improve existing product. Developed procedures for proper data formatting.

Put financials in place for major business expansion. Sugar Foods purchased a wet pack company with plans to build three more. Helped structure loan needed to construct three new plants and set up reporting package. Assured that all three plants were successfully put into operation within a year, and later sold for $100M profit.

Cut health insurance costs and workers comp claims. Created health self-insurance program for Sugar Foods, and revamped workers compensation insurance program. Improved safety, cutting workers comp claims by 20%. An 8% health care coverage cost increase was expected. Instead, achieved 10% overall cost reduction.

Career Summary

CFO / Deputy Executive Director, NYC Health + Hospitals, 2004 to 2016. Served as member of executive management team, with principal responsibility for the Home Care division of this operator of public hospitals and clinics in New York City.
