Dissertation Title: “Gauging Access to Electricity: How do Multi-Tiered Frameworks Address the Shortcomings of Binary Variables When Measuring Rural Communities’ Access to Modern Electricity?” Louisiana State University; August 2009 – May, 2013; GPA 3.69 B.Sc., Economics 2013 – Major in International Trade and Finance EXPERIENCE:

SSA Technical (SSAtech), Morogoro, Tanzania
PROFILE – SSA Technical exists to provide technical skills training and affordable off-grid solar energy systems for rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa to fight energy poverty. It is our mission to increase access to safe and reliable energy systems in the pursuit of decreasing carbon energy dependency while increasing youth capacity and overall socio-economic livelihoods for Africa’s current and future generations.
Key Achievements:
- Led a team of diverse backgrounds from a Hackathon competition to a full fledge non-profit operating based out of Dublin, Ireland, and operating in Morogoro, Tanzania by fully utilizing past and current networks within the public and private sector.
- Successfully conducted feasibility studies using surveys, mapping, interviews along with other data gathering techniques to ensure that projects are designed to be sustainable, holistic, and address the underlying needs of the community or local organization
- Led an in-depth market analysis focused on renewable energy and off-grid energy systems in East Africa.
- Acted as a liaison between donors in Ireland and local communities. SSAtech conducts fieldwork exercises to identify and categorize projects that are then presented to potential donors and organizations that have expressed interest in providing capital support.
Graduate Researcher, May 2015 – August 2015
RAE Trust, Lake Baringo, Kenya
PROFILE - RAE Trust is a development organization located in rural Kenya. Their main objective is conflict resolution through the rehabilitation of arid and semi-arid landscapes in Baringo County, Kenya. Key Achievements:
- Positively contributed to the development of agri-business model that was a unique combination of non-profit and for-profit business models. The primary focus was developing a model that used grass seed as the primary source of income generation while ensuring that rural farmers in Kenya could still afford the services. The outcome was a cross-subsidizing model that used the profits selling grass seed to large organizations to subsidize the price for local farmers.
- As a graduate researcher, in charge of assisting in the transition of RAE trust from a donor dependent NGO to a self- sustainable social enterprise. Through my work I was able to reorganize 5 plus years of highly detailed data into a single master dataset that was used to analysis past trends within the organization. The type of data was both quantitative and qualitative, and varied from financial data to farmer livelihoods based on income generation.
- Primary work deliverable was an in-depth cost/benefit/risk analysis focused around the three main activities of development: Land rehabilitation/grass seed harvesting, livestock fattening, and consultancy. The document was used as a business proposal by the directors in reaching out to investors. Graduate Researcher, January 2015 – April 2015
GOAL, Dublin, Ireland
PROFILE - GOAL Ireland is one of the largest NGO’s in Ireland. They are globally recognized for their work in Africa, particularly in food security and health care.
- During my internship with GOAL I conducted an intense data analysis of previous agriculture projects conducted by GOAL. The projects included the evaluation of 3 agriculture projects in Zimbabwe including post planting, pre- harvest and post-harvest datasets
- Furthermore, I advised GOAL’s management on developing best practices for information driven programming within GOAL
- The overreaching theme of my time with GOAL was exploring big data’s role in development, including how data can be used to create synergy across multiple projects and how to best structure field data for future analysis across projects.
Team Member, January 2013 – August 2013; April 2014 – August 2014 Louisiana Economic Development – International Commerce, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States of America PROFILE – The International Commerce is a sub-department of Louisiana Economic Development, the state’s economic development department. It is responsible for generating trade reports, attracting foreign direct investment, and expanding Louisiana’s global outreach.
- During my time with Louisiana Economic Development, I primarily worked with meta datasets to develop economic impact models used to rank potential FDI targets. The goal of the models were to reduce a fairly large list of potential projects to a more management list that could narrow the focus of the international trade team and increase the probability of a ‘Win’.
- Furthermore, I was in charge of recording and analyzing past, present and potential FDI and export/import trends in Louisiana
- I also contributed to organizing Louisiana’s first board of International Commerce, which was delegated with the mandate of exploring Louisiana’s presence in the world economy
- During the organization of the board top tier consultants, BCG and AT Kearney, were brought onboard to assist with the development of Louisiana’s first comprehensive master plan for international commerce. Being able to work alongside top tier consultants and learn from them was an invaluable experience.
- Lastly, I was responsible for managing the development of foreign market reports which were used on executive trade missions
