MAJOR PROJECTS
Inferring Mobile QoE in using Machine Learning Techniques – Estimated quality of experience for mobile apps using network traces only (EECS 589: Advanced Computer Networks, Fall 2015) Efficient execution of MapReduce applications on irregular NoC topology – Designed a technique that allows performant MapReduce applications’ execution despite permanent faults in NoC (EECS 578: Correct Operation for Processors and Embedded Systems, Fall 2015) TDM-based secure NoC with improved bandwidth – D esigned a secure NoC using BookSim simulator that has significant improvement in performance over traditional TDM- based networks (EECS 573: Microarchitecture, Fall 2014)
P6-style 3-way superscalar processor – D esigned a P6-style 3- way superscalar, out-of-order processor for Alpha-64 IS using SystemVerilog ( EECS 470: Computer Architecture, Fall 2014) Drobosim – Created a disk simulator in Java that emulates BeyondRAID technology to evaluate reliability and performance features of a wide range of disk configurations ( ECEG 6514: Fault Tolerant Computing, Spring 2013)
Real-time Cartoonifier on FPGA platform – Built an accelerated video cartoonifier using Verilog on an Altera DE-2 FPGA board to transform a live video input from a digital camera and cartoonify (alter into a cartoon-like display) it. ( ECEG 5502: BSc Thesis, S pring 2011) Cursor control using facial features and expression input – Developed a software application in C++ that enables the control of a computer cursor by monitoring a person’s eye movement through a webcam. The feature extractions and analysis from a continuous video stream were done using library of functions called OpenCV. ( ECEG 4508: Senior Year Project, Winter 2010) AWARDS
Dow Sustainability Fellowship, 2015
Addis Ababa University Female Graduate Scholarship Award, Sep. 2011 – Sep. 2013 OUTREACH AND LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES
ACM Tapia Diversity in Computing Conference – (2016) Served as part of University of Michigan’s Computer Science and Engineering Program recruitment team. Dow Sustainability Fellowship Project – (2015) Worked as part of an interdisciplinary team to develop a decision-making model for an NGO in Sudan to make smarter decisions when building water resources. I reached out to several experts in the area and conducted informational interviews during the project development. I also worked with a graphics designer to develop pamphlets for creating awareness in the community.
IELTS preparation course, British Council, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – (2014) Provided one-on-one English language support to visually-impaired students taking IELTS preparation courses at the British Council of Addis Ababa. IELTS is a standardized British English fluency exam required for admission in most UK colleges. As a support teacher, I would work with the student individually during class times. Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAiT), class representative – (2011- 2013) In this leadership position, I served as a liaison between cohorts and faculty or staff. English, math and physics tutoring – (2012-2013) Provided tutoring support in science and math subjects to local high-school students
Women’s club, Addis Ababa University (AAU) – ( 2012) As a leader of the women’s club at my university, I would visit high schools in the city and provide an overview of the university and of the college experience in general. I would also specifically deliver motivational presentations to female students, encouraging them to attend college and outlining the benefits a college degree brings to their professional potential. I would also organize welcoming events for the freshman class and provide peer advising to female students attending AAU.
