General Superintendent - Ghirardelli Square - seismic upgrade and modernization San Francisco, CA
Project cost – 44 million
Responsible for phase one seismic upgrade and phase two which consisted of reconstruction of Ghirardelli Square into time share condos.
Construction of phase one and two consisted of concrete shear walls, spread footings, micro piles and structural steel brace frames. New steel braces were erected from footings at level below ground and brought up to the top 4th and 5th floors, approximately 75 feet. In addition, the center core was completed which consisted of coring from top of brick parapet down to minus 3 feet below sidewalk elevation which was approximately 60-80 feet. These cores were 8 inch in circumference through existing brick. Number 8 rebar was placed and high strength grout was poured.
This job was very difficult because the Owner wanted to preserve the 100 year old interior brick which was to remain in tact.
Transformation of the existing roof was completed successfully.
As a result of our successful remodeling efforts this building was declared a historic landmark by the City of San Francisco.
The new face lift cosmetically restored this historic building to it’s original glory.

GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT – H & M RETAIL STORE
Corner of Powell and O’Farrell
San Francisco, CA.
PROJECT ! COST 28 MILLION
Responsible for construction of six story concrete structure, while maintaining existing historical façade located in Union Square.
This building consisted of ground up six story hybrid concrete pre-cast beams and planks along with poured in place matt slab, upturn beams and shear walls while the basement was shotcrete walls.
Prior to construction an existing structure had to be in place to maintain an existing historical façade which was dictated by the City of San Francisco.
Demolition of existing buildings was needed to prior to mass excavation. While this work was being done we had to maintain the existing façade directly next to existing buildings with zero property line and working directly next to the S.F. cable car while not impacting their schedule.
This proved to be quite a scheduling challenge because I had to maintain and coordinate my shipments on time and direct truck drivers to stay on time and unload in a timely manner so as not to obstruct the cable cars railway system and at the same time get my shipments on time.
Responsible for coordinating meetings with the City of S.F. Officials, DPT, DPW, MUNI, Fire Marshal and Union Square Association Board members.
Supervised the delivery of the tower crane that was erected on the corner of Powell and O’Farrel. I was told by a S.F. City Official that our corner was one of the busiest intersections in the world.
Cable Cars and MUNI ran parallel to job site and transportation schedules could not be disrupted. I had a small window of opportunity to erect and dismantle the tower crane while not obstructing traffic and thus avoiding traffic jams. There were also hundreds of tourists walking by that had to be carefully shielded from the job site.
This job site was a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation, in order to fast track the completion of the building for the European Owners.
Conducted weekly safety meetings and was responsible for the crew of over 200 men.
! This job was completed on time on within our budget.
