Mechanical Technical Support Manager (2009 to Aug 2013)

Worked in Quanaminthe, Haiti from Jan 2009 - April 2011 to assist with the startup of two contractor-sewing facilities making intimate apparel for VF Brands and Fruit of the Loom.

oResponsible for all sewing, maintenance equipment, buildings, equipment inventory, parts purchasing and budgets.

oSet up and maintained training programs for sewing mechanics and maintenance personal.

oSet up and maintained basic mechanic training programs for operators, supervisors, engineers, sewing trainers and quality personal.

oAfter a successful completion of the Haiti project I was moved to the Tech Support Department for Fruit of the Loom in May 2011.

Received extensive training, as Tech Support in all Fruit owned sewing facilities.

Received extensive training in the area of pad printing – sewless care labels.

Training and troubleshooting pad-printing problems. Pad printing new style set up. This included set ups and training at contract facilities in many different locations in Southeast Asia.

Pad printing ink mixing laboratory set up and training lab technicians.

Help the company save over US$3 million the first year by converting from conventional sew labels to pad printing labels.

Fruit had a need for a bar tackers to close waist elastic for a cost saving project. I recommended the modification of existing equipment instead of purchasing new ones saving more than US$1.2 million. Trained mechanics to modify equipment needed for the project.

Worked with other cost savings projects such as chopper guards to eliminate safety problems for operators. Total saving’s companywide was approximately US$1.3 million.

Setup SOP’s and schedules for sewing machine preventive maintenance for all style packets used throughout the Fruit Company.

Chief Machinist Manager: (2002 thru 2008)

Responsible for purchasing all equipment needed for expansion of offshore manufacturing for 21 company owned facilities in Mexico = 14 sew plants, 1 cutting plant, Honduras = 2 sew plants, 1 cutting plant, Dominican = 3 sew plants, USA = Off-shore tech support department, equipment purchasing and managed the parts department.

Fluent in %S and Lean Manufacturing.

Manage all mechanic and maintenance departments in Mexico, Honduras and Dominican Republic; including staff of 21 Head Mechanics and 19 Maintenance Supervisors. In addition to McAllen, TX facility managed one equipment storage manager and 5 mechanics along with 6 parts room personal reporting to me.

Conducted annual evaluations of my personnel. I worked with each that had weak areas, set goals that were reasonable for them and monitored them for improvement.

Manage mechanic and maintenance parts and equipment budgets including equipment inventories.

Train and manage the development of special attachments, folders, machines for new operations and new styles, choppers, clicker dies, molding attachments and cost saving projects with a total savings of approximately US$1.5 million from 2002 to 2008.

Control parts usage budgets, equipment purchases and negotiated prices. Reduced parts budget from US$3.2 million to US$325,000 during 2002 to 2008 saving US$2.8+ million.

Initiated numerous cost savings projects including modifying electronic programmable Juki bar tackers. To modify was less then US$90n each with savings of more than US$1.5million.

During the process of eliminating obsolete equipment, made contacts with several vendors and set up bids to sell to the highest bidder. Traded obsolete equipment for equipment needed.

Assisted US based Chief Machinist by managing all off shore Mechanic and Maintenance departments.

Managed and trained mechanics and maintenance personal in their area of duties.

Developed special attachments, folders and machines for specific areas related to quality problems, new style problems and cost reduction projects.

Set up a folder making shop in each plant. With mechanics trained in making folders the company made folders customized per specific operation. The savings of making folders for many different types of applications companywide averaged US$750,000+ per year.

Developed a new type of folder for attaching leg elastic to panties. This folder reduced the operator training curve from 6 months down to 3 weeks @ 100% efficiency. Operators cross training to leg elastic – training time was min 2 weeks @ 100% efficiency. With new folder cross training was reduced to 3 days @ 100% efficiency.

Set up parts departments in all off shore plants and monitored parts usage. Worked with local vendors for best price.

Assisted in new facility installations and expansions.

Trained and monitored the safety programs for the mechanic and maintenance departments.

Monitored machine down time and set up training as needed. In 1992 the percentage of machine down time (MDT) was in the double digits. Through training and monitoring, my team reduced MDT to 1% and less. This increased % of efficiency and improved quality problems.

Troubleshoot new styles / products.

Set up, trained and monitored preventive maintenance programs for the mechanic and maintenance departments to include all pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.

Established and monitored a centralized equipment storage area for Mexico.
