timetable purpose as well as for the electrification purpose.

The Channel Tunnel Rail Link is being built by London & Continental

Railways Limited. It will be Britain's first major new railway for over a

century - a high-speed line running for 109km (68 miles) between St Pancras

station in London and the Channel Tunnel. The project was authorised by

Parliament with the passage of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Act, 1996. ?The

new high speed line is being built in 2 Sections. Section 1 has been under

construction since October 1998 and runs between the Channel Tunnel and

Fawkham Junction in north Kent. The first Section is on schedule for

opening in October 2003.?Work on Section 2 began in July 2001 and completes

the new line into London's St Pancras. Section 2 is on schedule for

completion by the end of 2006.

transportation infrastructure project in the world. This mega-project

involves the engineering and constructionof412 kilometre of track bed, with

over 47% of the alignment through 83 tunnels and 27% over bridges and

viaducts. Built to accommodate the French TGV high speed trains running at

a maximum speed of 350 kilometres per hour, the construction is 35%

complete and will open for commercial operations in December of 2003. There

will be 46 train sets, each capable of carrying 1000 passengers from Seoul

to Pusan in 1 hour and 56 minutes.Eleven rail depots will be built.

Catenary installation for two 25kV systems has been completed on the 34.1km

test track that has already opened in December 1999. The Korean Vision is
