Work Experience

Park College of Engineering &Tech (Anna University): August 2012-2015

Research Assistant

Knowledge in Design, Fabrication and Testing of 1.5 Kw and 5 kW Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine. Project for academic research and Centre for Wind energy and Technology used data acquisition for output analysis for power curves and certification.

Knowledge in design and fabrication of shoe brake for very small wind turbine machines. Fabricated and tested performance characters while stopping and during yaw.

Involved in design modelling and fabrication of cross flow turbine (150 Kw) and reported for its failure analysis case study in the commissioned site.

Designed, Fabricated a probe traverse assembly for open type (cascade) wind tunnel measurements.

LASER flow visualisation set up for low speed wind tunnel and did basic turbulent studies.

Experimental Characteristics of Wind Turbine Blading over Full Zero to 360 Deg. Angle of Attack. Instrument coupling for pressure measurement and data acquisition.

Prediction of surface roughness using experimental factors (using the acoustic emission sensor) in a Turning process for Titanium Al-4 alloy.

Key Roles and Accomplishments:

In Design team of four for calculation of aerodynamic and structural (composites mat and resin properties). Simulation of the models (CATIA, FLUENT, NASTRAN, HYPERMESH) and prototype wind tunnel testing. Completed the projects by the time line typically one year for fabrication and certification respectively. Work allocation and FMEA procedure for projects like design of wind Turbine and crossflow turbine.

Manufacturing drawing preparation and production follow up for critical parts and tooling and work holding planning for precision parts like the bladed disk.

LITE Containers: January 2011 to June 2012 Product design (Applications Engineering Onsite):

Worked in Design and fabrication of DIES used for LPG cylinders (Deep drawing). Implemented Poka Yoke Techniques for the hydraulic press to prevent stamping defects using proximity sensor and lubricant checking. Responsible in making FMEA reports potential effects of failure, current controls (prevention and detection), RN, Recommended action for metal forming (drawing and stamping and forging process) for SS 301,304 food grade and other Steel alloys for LPG cylinders.

Metal forming simulation for finding near exact parameters for the forming of SS cylinder (1 foot dia)

Analysis for Pipe formation and bending simulation for estimating spring back, Hydroforming for pipes and its formability calculation and other design Factor

Also created and monitored for making reports for causal failure and Design control detection and recommendation for correction.

Time study of work procedures and ergonomic analysis using RULA scores.

Tools used: ABAQUS, NX CAD, CATIA and DEFORM 3D.

Involved in product development of a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (small scale) generator and matching of turbine with characteristics.

Design of Side entry pump using CFD for Designed and prototype functional testing for matching and validation. Used quality tools and FMEA charts for confining the critical parameters while advanced design stage and concur it with design team in the client side.

Manufacturing process simulation using SIMUL8 for large and small assembly sequences in the pump industry.

Taken several trials for tool path and tool selection using Autodesk HSM (Injection moulds) and worked in Moldflow Insight for feasibility analysis.

Aryen motor company, Coimbatore, India July 2008 to Dec 2010

Assistant Design Engineer and member of the cross functional team

Design and Planning for manufacturing 0.25,1 hp centrifugal pumps. Involved right from the design to fabrication of the pump at the industry with a capacity of 1000 units a week. Created WBS and followed manufacturing sequence and plans. Have worked a year in foundry and followed for production orders with quality checks and conformance to specification. Used FMEA and tools for feed-back to structural design team for corrections.

Design validation using CFD simulation for centrifugal and side entry pumps (discharge, velocity etc Handled Pump development for variable frequency pump.

Tools Used: FLUENT and CFX, MS Project, MINITAB.

Key roles and Responsibilities: Responsible for design correction of existing pumps and new design of agricultural centrifugal and domestic side entry pumps, Failure analysis of existing pumps using axiomatic and material based failures. Followed APQP for vendor rating and development. Production feedback for the same. Involved in Process layout design using group mapping and standby approach.

PSG Industrial Institute, Coimbatore, India June 2007 to Dec 2008

Apprenticeship Trainee
