Safety Manager

Oversaw all safety and risk management functions, including job-site safety; noise and dust sampling; haz-com program; risk management; accident prevention and documentation; safety training and evaluation; and MSHA, OSHA, DOT, DNR and EPA compliance. Maintained safety files and records and investigated and handled claims and citations from start to finish. Conducted routine audits and inspections of sites and made recommendations for corrective action or preventative measures.

Worked directly with owners and other managers to create and update policies and programs for 200 owned, leased or controlled mine properties with approximately 150 conditional use permits, as well as highway road construction operations and shop support facilities.

Responded promptly to unannounced mandatory site inspections (2 per year for each mine ID) throughout the State of Wisconsin.

Reduced citations from the Mining Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) and EPA through a combination of effective negotiation and problem mitigation.

Worked with a consultant and attorneys to prepare a 300-page report outlining mitigation efforts to reduce a $170K fine to $62K by responding to technical differences of interpretation regarding EPA/DNR regulations for large quantity generation versus small quantity generation.

Kept up-to-date compliance for all training plans and programs to achieve zero training violations from 2001 – present.

Developed and refined incentive programs, using productive and creative approaches, to reduce all risks and injuries, and return individuals to work on a timelier basis.

Kept Workers’ Compensation insurance modification factors below 1 in 15 of 16 years.

Achieved 2 million Hours without Lost Time Accident several times.

Received a Safety Award of Excellence from AON Risk Services for experience mod factor of below .75 in 2011.
