Feedback:
This dissertation presents the findings of a suitable research investigation that has been undertaken in a major area of applied computing. The purpose of this research was to undertake an investigation towards a harmonized Identity Management System for Nigeria. INTRODUCTION (11/15)
The topic of identity management system in Nigeria is relevant and a problem worth investigating.
Although the abstract discusses the approach taken in the research it does not clearly record any of the major results or any of the main conclusions. Chapter 1 provides a generally well written introduction to the chosen topic. The background to the research is clearly explained and the rationale and motivation for the research is clearly presented. The chapter consist of all the required elements such as the research aim; clearly stated objectives and a number of research questions. The scope and limitations of the research are discussed. The chapter concludes with a description of the structure of the rest of the dissertation.
LITERATURE REVIEW (11/20)
The literature review is well structured and has a logical flow, starting from the question of “Why harmonisation?” to engaging professional bodies in the process. It presents a, generally well- written, discussion of the research topic using a good range of mostly relevant and up to date literature. However, although it contains some relevant analysis, there are a number of direct quotations that could have been paraphrased and used in a more critical discussion. There also appear to be a few unreferenced statements. A brief summary is presented – but the relevant issues could have been presented more explicitly and related to any relevant research objectives/questions. Overall, the literature review does not clearly establish a gap or identify the research problem.
METHODOLOGY (9/15)
The chosen methodology of data collection and survey analysis is apt for the research questions defined. The choice of methodology is reasonably justified, and data collection methods are discussed. However, these could have had more detailed discussion, with sampling details, reliability and verifiability of data. It discusses the questions used in the questionnaire and how they relate to the stated hypotheses.
FINDINGS (12/20)
The findings from the research are generally well presented and appropriate inferences have been made. The result tables could have been presented more clearly by using grids. An analysis of the collected data for the questionnaire is given and the three hypotheses are tested. However, there is no discussion of the findings for each individual question. Section 4.2 is a simple listing of the results of each question. The results could have been further critically analysed and compared with similar work conducted using secondary sources. I would have expected at least a brief comment in response to each question. If not, then these results should simply have been presented in an appendix and referred to as required. The Research Methodology identified that an oral interview is intended to absorb the information not covered in the questionnaire. There is no mention of any oral interview in the findings. There is some evidence of mapping of the results to the defined research aims and objectives. However, there is no end of chapter summary that draws together the work described in the chapter and that explains the conclusions. There appears to be a missed opportunity here to draw a number of conclusions and relate them to the research objectives. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS (11/20)
The final chapter presents a summary of the research carried out. Some adequate conclusions are presented and related to the original three hypotheses. The discussion also provides a list of recommendations. The answers found in the research could have been discussed more explicitly to demonstrate fulfilment of the research objectives. The discussion does not explicitly relate the findings back to previous work – and there is no clear reflection on how the recommendations made directly resulted from the research undertaken. Overall, the dissertation presents indications that the research aim was met. PRESENTATION (6/10)
This is a generally well structured and reasonably well presented dissertation. The dissertation has generally been written in an appropriate style. There are some grammatical and typographical errors. There is systematic use of the Harvard referencing system throughout – although there are a few minor referencing errors. Your details will then be taken to the universities internal exam board
