Patrol Deputy/ FTO/ S.W.A.T. Member
Iberia Parish Sheriff Office - New Iberia, LA - October 2009 to June 2012 As a proactive uniformed criminal patrol deputy, I was responsible for deterrence of crime and violations, protection of civilians along with their property and apprehension of violators in accordance to Louisiana Criminal Law. Entrance into the Patrol Division required attendance and completion of the Acadiana Law Enforcement Training Academy. During this academy essential functions of law enforcement were taught, including: meticulous report writing skills, Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Council testing, understanding and comprehension of the Louisiana Revised Statues, defensive tactics and physical training. In the process of apprehension, all of which is dictated by Iberia Parish Sheriff Office policy and procedure, I was responsible for gathering evidence and assessing the victims complaint. This information was then compared against Louisiana's Revised Statutes and based on officer discretion to determine whether a violation occurred. If a violation has occurred, given the situation, and the suspect is in custody they are then placed under arrest and transported to jail. However, if the suspect is not in presence an arrest warrant is filed and attached to a detailed report which is approved by the superior officer. Following the detention of the suspect, a court date (depending on the location of the violation, either Iberia Parish Court or Iberia City Court) is issued and requires my appearance to testify as a witness of the state. I was assigned as a Field Training Officer, wherein I would train and acclimate new recruited deputies to the standardized Iberia Parish Sheriff Office policies and procedures along with the requirements and duties for law enforcement. Every deputy in training placed in the Field Training Officer program for 14 weeks. The officer in training would then be assigned a separate FTO for 4 phases, until completion. Depending on which phase I was assigned as per the FTO coordinator, I was responsible for the deputy in trainings action, issuing verbal and written tests on policy and procedure, gathering explicit information on the deputy in training while performing his or her duties, and then filing weekly assessments on their performance. This information was subjected for review to myself and the FTO coordinators experience as a law enforcement officer. The officers in training would then be given a score either allowing them to continue or be terminated from the program. I was also an active member with Special Weapons And Tactics. This included rapid response, developmental team work training, coordination and critical thinking assessment to situation surpassing uniformed criminal patrol deputies abilities. Consideration for this position was based on oral board review of ranking officers, a physical assessment and demonstration of firearm efficiency. Team members were expected to train mentally, physically and tactfully on a constant schedule. This self discipline is then applied during team practices. Parts Service Manager
