Projects handled in HMH:

Data Visualization

Data visualization is a visual representation of data in graphical form(charts). Currently HMHCo.com data has been visualized using sitecatalyst(https://sc.omniture.com), but the graphical representation, accessibility and custom features are not great hence the need for the Data Visualization web application. We have implemented a new web application using the latest web frameworks (Twitter bootstrap, HTML5, Groovy/Grails etc). This web application visualizes the HMH platforms (25+platforms) data in customized pages. This web application reads the HMH platforms data from different platform databases, webservices, through online web pages and finally store the data into the local databases. Finally, this web application renders the data in different charts using Google Visualization charts, Fusion charts and High charts. Some of the HMH platforms are: HMHCo.com, TCK6, HMOF, Science Fusion, Data Manager, Curious George and HMH Player platforms.

CDM(Content Deployment Manager)

HMH engineers release the TCK6, HMOF platforms digital content using the CDM web application. The engineering team prepares the digital assets to schools and colleges and place the digital assets in SVN repository. The release engineers use the CDM web application to deploy the digital assets from SVN onto deployment servers. The CDM web application checks out the content from the given SVN repository, reads the metadata files, validates the metadata and transfers the digital content files onto deployment servers.

Writesource / MyWriteSmart - Web Content Management System

It is a Web Application which interacts with the Write source content APIs. This Web Application automates the Content ID Management workflow (i.e. BOM mappings), the Content Release workflow and the API supported CRUD operations on manifest files (will support the 4 Content types: Bookshelf, Grammer Snap, Net Text, Whiteboard). Using this web application, the content and release engineering team releases the digital content onto different environments.

Knewton Metadata Generator

HMOF and TCK6 are 2 HMH platforms to provide online education to the US schools. Each of these platforms are having 7 environments (e.g. Cert, Prod-Review, Prod etc). Each Environment has input Excel file with a different UUID numbers, user manually generate 6 x CSV files from the excel sheets. The CSV files are zipped and uploaded to the Adaptive Content Upload Server associated with the environment. The current process is manual and it is estimated that it takes 4hours per environment, so 7 environments will take 24 manual hours. We are providing an end to end solution to automate the process. The automated solution will hardly takes 2 to 3 minutes per environment.

SAP Wrapper

This application will consume some of the Apache Camel WebServices, the application will be an improvement over the existing ISBN look-up in HMH and offer users additional Services related to Customer details and potentially Transaction details. This is a web based application to provide metadata info about ISBNs.

WebLinkCrawler

This application is an automated web solution to identify the broken links on HRW platform. The web application reports all the broken links so that the support team can fix if any links are broken.

TCK6 Planner XML Generator

The purpose of the "TCK6 Planner XML Generator" is to automate the creation of planner XML files from the source Excel files in SVN.
