JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Joins the health team, the physician, other nurses and special workers in planning, developing,

rendering and evaluating the total care of the patient.

2. Execute legal orders of the physician concerning treatment and medications and assists them with

diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

3. Monitor vital signs, level of consciousness, observe pertinent signs and symptoms, properly document

these in the chart, institutes remedial action when appropriate and report these assessments to the

physician.

4. Perform other nursing activities/procedures such as bed making, bathing, oral hygiene, maintaining

proper alignment of patients body while utilizing proper body mechanics, moving patient, performing

irrigations and catheterizations, starting an intravenous line, setting up blood transfusions, etc.

5. Properly administers and charts medications, observe for any adverse reactions that may occur, and

initiates appropriate nursing interventions.

6. Encourages patient to accept modifications of his/her normal pattern of living imposed by chronic

illness or permanent incapacity, assists patient in identifying his/her needs for medical assistance, explains

to the patient and his/her family their roles in promoting successful therapy and rehabilitation and gives

health teachings.

7. Responds to patients emotional and spiritual needs.

Duties and Responsibilities: Intensive Care Unit

Receives the unit from outgoing nurse and makes actual rounds with the nurse.

Receives patients from ER and post-op patients from OR with proper endorsements.

Checks medicines, treatments, injection cards and carries orders on specific time.

Admits and discharges patients; recording hospital routines and policies.

Gathers information on admission like proper identification his/her name, age, address and other

circumstances.

Monitors vital signs and reports any untoward signs and symptoms.

Charts accurately all treatments, injection and other pertinent observations.

Administers medicines conscientiously by observing the five rights.

Informs the physician of the laboratory results of the patient.

Escorts patient to other department like x-ray, ultrasound, CAT Scan, Echocardiogram room.

Assists physician in bedside rounds and special procedures.

Checks and reports any malfunctions on the different equipments like Pulse oximeter, oxygen

tank, cardiac monitor, IV pump, suction apparatus and mechanical ventilators.

Administers blood products and monitors patient response.

Provides care for patients requiring nasograstic tube feeding.

Provides care for the patients requiring mechanical ventilation.

Maintains accurate nursing notes.

Endorses stable patients to Ward Nurses.

ESRD, Chronic Renal Failure, Acute Renal Failure, Vehicular Accidents, Lung Cancer, COPD,

Congestive Heart Failure, Angina, Myocardial Infarction, Coronary Artery Disease, Congestive Heart

Failure, Diabetes Mellitus, Cerebro-Vascular Accident (Hemorrhagic, Infarct) and other medical-surgical

related diseases.
