Kennametal Extrude Hone / Extrude Hone LLC Irwin, PA (2014 -2017)

$60M manufacturing facility whose products shipped to markets in North and South America, Europe, India, and Asia. Irwin business segments included custom engineering solutions to customer demands, polymer mix manufacturing, contract services, and aftermarket support.

Plant Manufacturing Manager (2015 – 2017)

Managed Operations/Manufacturing P&L ($400K/month), led capital projects, and implemented continuous improvement projects while ensuring safety, housekeeping, and product quality were not compromised.

Developed metric-driven Balanced Scorecard in order to track and measure performance improvement of all shops.

Worked closely with Aerospace, Medical, Automotive, and General Engineering customers to ensure engineered-to-order products were designed, built, and shipped on time.

Applied Stage Gate process to guarantee customer machine acceptance standards were met upon delivery.

Coordinator of Maintenance, Hot Strip Mill (2013 – 2014)

Managed line maintenance and operations activities, production planning, operator safety, and product quality in a Union environment with over 70 direct and indirect employees.

Ensured operational reliability to 97% on a 1930’s vintage Hot Strip Mill.

Directed weekly safety updates to all Hot Mill employees, performed daily safety walks and safety conversations

Recipient of HIRA Award (Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis) – recognizing Irvin Plant Safety initiatives.

Reheat Furnace Manager, Hot Strip Mill (2012 – 2013)

Designed and implemented furnace heating improvement project. Project realized over $1M savings in Natural Gas spend during year one of operation.

Implemented a lifesaving safety system on furnace double block and bleed system. Project was recognized by U.S. Steel management as a corporate wide best practice.

Responsible for $1.5M operations and improvement budget.

Maintenance Supervisor, Pickle Lines (2011 – 2012)

Implemented soy-based grease in manufacturing equipment to reduce health, environmental, and flammability hazards created where traditional greases were used.

Designed and installed scale-breaker roll-change crane. Device removed operational hazards (pinch points, strains/sprains, etc and improved operating time by decreasing line-down time (15min / change)

Supervised maintenance, repair, and upgrade activities during $8M renovation of the Pickling Lines.

Operations Supervisor, Cold Reduction Mill (2008 – 2010)

Supervised 21 Union employees across all operational shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd).

Set Cold-Reduction Mill production record for Tons/Turn (4,480 tons / 8 hours).

Engineering Co-Op, Cold Reduction Mill (2007-2008)

Designed, engineered, and installed a Back-Up Roll containment trough to allow for oil spill containment and easy reclamation of used oils.

Orthopedic Research Engineer (2007 – 2011)

Co-authored “The Relative and Absolute Bone Density at the TMT Joint in Hallux Valgus”.

Developed incubator used with live bovine cartilage to evaluate in situ cartilage deterioration under variable loading.

Tested for range of motion deficiencies in patients presenting with radial head fractures. Used servo-motor driven simulators to examine range of motion. Study helped define a need for surgery in 90% of elbow fracture cases.

Evaluated bone density changes in patients presenting with severe hallux valgus angles. Aided Orthopedic Surgeons in determining requirements for Bunion Repair Surgery.

(Worked duel positions by continuing this after graduation while also working shifts at US Steel.)
