A native of Rochester, New York, Marvin Migdol earned a bachelor's degree
in sociology at the University of Buffalo. Following law school at the
University of Miami, he earned a Master's degree from Boston University in
public relations.
Marvin was an executive with the United Way in Reading, Pennsylvania. He
went on to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York as
Director of Public Relations. Touro Infirmary, a 650-bed hospital in New
Orleans, hired him to be Director of Public Relations and he moved on to a
similar capacity with Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania. In 1966,
Marvin was appointed Director of Public Relations for the Buffalo Jewish
Federation.
Marv served as Director of Public Relations for the national United Jewish
Appeal (UJA), heading a staff of over 20 PR professionals involved with
publicity, marketing communications, audio-video, special events, fund-
raising and image promotion. At the time, UJA was the Number One
philanthropic organization in the country in terms of dollars raised. He
has been a frequent writer for the National Jewish & Opinion (weekly) for
50 years. In addition, he has written extensively for other Jewish
newspapers including Israel Today.
He spent seven years after Boston University in public relations, marketing
and promotion for non-profit agencies and institutions. Marv also did
extensive marketing and public relations work as a consultant for hundreds
of companies and organizations, professional sports enterprises, the
Hospital Review and Planning Council, trade associations and many others.
But the entrepreneurial bug bit him and in August 1968 he decided to go
into business for himself. Marvin bought a Snelling personnel agency
franchise and moved to Dallas from Buffalo establishing his first office
which was among the top Snelling offices in the country. He proceeded to
open and own four successful Snelling offices in the Metroplex.
Concurrently, he had an extensive public relations and marketing practice;
also did part-time PR teaching. Marv also conducted numerous business
evaluations.
In 1971 he founded Nationwide Franchise Marketing Services which rapidly
became a leading consulting firm. Nationwide Consultants was established
for specializing in franchise marketing/sales and allied franchise
development. Marv has served as an expert witness in numerous cases.
He is a coach on personal achievement and has been a member of the American
Society for Training & Development. He served as a professional baseball
umpire.
From 1997 to 2007, Marvin worked successfully in marketing, public
relations and sales for Careington International, a major health care
benefits firm based in a Dallas suburb. He was Marketing Manager. His
successful marketing and sales record can be verified. Marv long remained
connected with Careington and also was Director of Membership for their
trade association, Consumer Health Alliance.
He has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Marvin is listed
in "Who's Who," "Who's Who in Advertising," "Who's Who in Finance and
Industry," and "Who's Who in the South and Southwest." In March 2009, he
was awarded the Texas Star Award for promotion of bridge.
Marvin was selected as the Dallas "Entrepreneur of the Year" in the well-
known competition, which was sponsored by Arthur Young and Company, for
excellence in franchising, marketing and business expansion.
He has been an adjunct public professor for numerous universities including
Pennsylvania State University, The State University of New York, The
University of Texas at Dallas, Oklahoma State University, Richland College,
Brookhaven. and Collin College. He taught a seminar at UTD. Marv taught
"Publicity on a Low Budget" for The Learning Annex. Donald Trump is also
on the faculty. Marv was a commencement speaker for the University of
Phoenix. He was a speech writer and associate of Erik Jonnson, founder of
Texas Instruments and Mayor of Dallas.
Marv was certified to plan, direct and instruct Dr. Denis Waitley
"Psychology of Winning" motivational and self-improvement courses. He
successfully taught seminars in Dallas and other cities, earning high
praise from major news media.
Other topics included public relations, time management, organization,
fundraising, franchising and business development. Many top executives,
including from major companies, including Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Texas
Instruments, American Airlines and EDS, lauded the courses and the
achievement coaching.
He also did extensive consulting for the Small Business Administration
(SBA) through the Bill Priest Center (Dallas Community Colleges). Marv has
heavy experience in publicity, ghost writing, promotion and special events
planning.
Marvin was the Curriculum Coordinator and Advisory Board member of the
Public Relations and Fundraising Certificate Program at Richland College.
In addition, he has been interviewed extensively on TV, radio and in
publications. He had a weekly TV program on the NBC affiliate in Buffalo,
New York called "Faith of Israel."
Marv has accomplished successful public relations work for numerous
entertainers and other celebrities. They include Alan King, Lainie Kazan,
Joel Grey, Ed Ames, Sammy Cahn (songwriter), Marty Allen, Estelle Getty
Peter Riegert, Dallas Cowboys, Edwin Black, Nancy Lieberman, Alan
Dershowitz, Ilan Ramon (Israeli astronaut) Gerda Klein and bridge greats.
He is an expert bridge player.
Marvin has been an active, award-winning writer and public speaker.
Articles by Marv have appeared in Newsweek, gone out over AP, and have
attained nationwide attention. In 2007 and 2008 he monitored a U.S. Justice
Department trial against the Holy Land Foundation, which supported
charities headed by Hamas terrorist groups. He has written five books and
has served as a frequent ghost writer, including for top executives at AT&T
and Texas Instruments.
Time Warner hired Marv as a consultant in special purpose comics and
published his book, "Comics as a Public Relations Tool In Communications."
(DC publishes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.). Excellent reviews.
He has served on the Boards of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting,
Academy of Hospital Public Relations, American Hospital Association PR
Group, The Institute for Information and Communication in Israel, Council
for Integrated Schools, Temple Shalom Brotherhood, Dallas Bridge
Association and was also the founder and leader of a Parkland Hospital
bereavement support group. He has been active in the Cousin's Club, a
Jewish-Arab-Christian organization striving for peace and greater
understanding in the Middle East, and the American Jewish Congress, a human
rights organization which looks out for minorities. He was on the
AJCongress (human rights), Southwestern Region Board and served as VP.
Marv is publicity chairman for Temple Shalom's second annual salute to
Israel, working to combat BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions).
Marvin headed the Center for Prejudice Reduction Board's Strategic Planning
Committee. The mission:
"Our mission is to create a more inclusive society by helping to
eliminate hate, bigotry, and violence that stems from prejudice and bias of
any form and to foster an atmosphere by which diverse groups can live
harmoniously."
He has been a leader in promoting inter-religious and inter-racial
understanding.
For the second year, he is a facilitator The event for Dallas Dinner
Table, which provides forums to improve race relations, will be held
January 16, 2017.
Marv was honored by the University at Buffalo in 2008 and was Chairman of
his historic class' 50th Reunion in October 2009.
Marv has been Chairman of a Christian fund-raising campaign to establish a
black orphanage and home for the aged in Africa. AIDS has taken a large
toll there. He was Chairman of the fund-raising campaign in 2000. In 2008,
he had a leadership role in a 'Y' fund raising campaign.
