Bachelor of Science in Engineering, International Mechanical Engineering Concentration
Engr GPA: 3.7/4.0 Overall GPA: 3.6/4.0
TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF BERLIN – Berlin, Germany July – August 2014
Course work in engineering, German language, and culture
EXPERIENCE
INTERNSHIP: ZF TRW – Koblenz, Germany May – August 2015
- Worked with engineers on special tests, such as determining spring retraction force after braking, determining the force required to overcome slippage of a piston, and finding the knockback of a brake
- Observed how American companies work internationally and the communication needed for a Tier 1 automotive supplier to prosper; learned how standards differ in Europe and the United States
- Helped design testing methods to confirm brake capabilities
- Supported the manufacturing engineers by contributing to team effort and helped clarify specifications
ASSISTANT FARM MANAGER: Jensen Farms – Tiskilwa, Illinois 2005 – 2012
- Developed innovative designs on the farm including a feed shed system that eliminated two conveyors and one auger, which reduced feed time by 25%
- Assisted in planting, nurturing, and harvesting 1600 acres of crops (corn, soybeans, wheat)
- Ran day-to-day operations including construction jobs and feeding 600 cattle morning and night
- Operated large machinery – tractors, skid steers, lifts
- Taught to be efficient in every task and to plan ahead
SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT: Calvin College – Grand Rapids, Michigan 2015 – 2016
Design of a thermoelectrically-cooled prosthetic leg to automatically provide comfort to the user during exercise for 1.5 hours by removing excess heat with Peltier coolers in a custom-made socket
- Developed a brand new idea to help amputees reduce sweat and discomfort in prosthetic sockets
- Designed the 3D-printed battery cases attached to the prosthetic leg in 3D CAD
- Integrated cooling modules within carbon fiber layers while hiding approximately 90% of the wires
- Confirmed the system’s capabilities through modeling and testing
- Manufactured the test socket and evaluated the final system to meet all requirements for performance
- Designed a web page that provided documentation and explained the project
- Worked closely with the electrical engineer to integrate solutions of mechanical and electrical systems
COMPUTER: AutoCAD, Adobe Dreamweaver, EES, Inventor, LoggerPro, MathCAD, MATLAB, Microsoft Office, PSpice, Python, Quartus, RSLogix500, RStudio, Simulation Mechanical, SolidWorks, Visio
OTHER
Business and Engineering in China Interim January 2015
- Three weeks of travel visiting many American and Chinese businesses
- Learned from executives how to eliminate waste and boost productivity in factories
- Experienced the role of culture in international business affairs
