PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
FIVE YEARS Worked as “RESEARCH OFFICER” in MALTI-CHEM RESEARCH CENTRE (CAMPHOR & ALLIED PRODUCTS LTD.) Nandesari, Baroda from 20th Aug. 1990 to 14th Nov. 1995. Presently I am into teaching profession; working in DELHI PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SAKET, DELHI teaching chemistry for A1& A2 level according to CIE i.e. Cambridge International Exam. I worked in Jasper County High School as Chemistry Teacher in South Carolina, SC-29935, US since August, 2006 till June 2009.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITY
Performed complicated & difficult Research Project assignments under the Supervision of Group Leader requiring a high degree of research technical competence.
MAJOR DUTIES PERFORMED
The main emphasis on my work is the discovery and development of new synthetic methods and their application to biologically active molecules. I was actively engaged on the synthesis of several large complex natural products.
1.Search & collect all literature and relevant data on various projects.
2.To carry out exploratory lab. work on the economically promising process and select one that is most profitable.
3.Optimise all reaction condition in lab. scale experiments.
4.Involve with process Engineer in arriving at the optimum.
5.Scale-up process to pilot plant level.
6.Solve any problem that arises at implementation state of the process.
7.Keep record & knowledge of precautions to be taken.
PROJECT WORK:
During 5 yrs. of Research Experience I worked on following projects.
1. MENTHOL menthol is an important chemical widely used in pharmaceutical & flavour industries. Preparation involves following Step
(i)Base catalysed isomerizatn of car-3-ene to an equal mixture (60:40; 1340C) of car-3-ene & car-2-ene
(ii)Pyrolysis of the above product (3000C) when all the car-2-ene present in the mixture Undergoes thermal rearrangement to trans-isolimonene car-3-ene remains unchanged under these conditions.
2.THYMOL :- It involves following Steps.
Dipentene (a mixture of p-Menthadieness) a by-product from camphor process is utilized as the starting material for the manufacture of 3-Menthene
3.ASTROLIDE :-
Astrolide is an important perfumery product prepared from Isoamylalcohol.
4.PHANTOLID:-
Phantolid is an important perfumery product prepared from p-vymene & Isoamylene
5.VANILLIN :-
Vanillin is also an perfumery product which is prepared from Guaiacol using sand meyer reaction.
PAPER PUBLICATION
I have developed a catalyst derived from soil, clays & zeolites. Zeolites are microporous Alumino Silicates of general formula Mx/n [(AlO2)x(SiO2=)y]mH2O where x and y is the valence of cation also known as shape relative catalyst which functions as both Bronsted & Lewis acids in their natural and ion-exchanged form and also act as radical catalyst and therefore a very selective catalyst for a wide range of organic transformations. Wide range of reactions can be performed on zeozine catalyst viz. Dehydration, Elimination, Ketalization, Acetalization, Substitution, Rearrangement, Diets-Alder reaction, oxidation reduction reactions and many more.
I have used this catalyst for
(1) Dehydration Catalyst Zeozins : vapour-phase dehydration 10,20, 30 alcohols to olefins
(2) Preparation of Ketals & Acetals: Acetals & Ketals are formed by treatment of aldehydes & Ketones respectively with alcohols in the presence of Zeozins Catalyst.
(3) Preparation of Mercaptans : Different 10,20 and 30 Ketones & aldehydes were treated with ethylene glycol & ethanedithiol to prepare Cyclic Ketals, acetals & Cyclic thio Ketals & Cyclic thioacetals.
This catalyst has played a major role in mitigating the problem of pollution by realizing the objectives of making chemical manufacturing ecologically benign and therefore have developed use of zeozins repacing hazardous and expensive reactants and reagents by safer and economical ones and thereby making the environment eco-friendly or designing clean or green chemistry.
