Rapid Synthesis of Nanofaujasitic Zeolite and Membrane Columbus, Ohio Ohio State University 02/2014-05/2015
• Developed a novel reaction device to synthesize zeolite and membrane via a dehydration-hydration process which results in short crystallization time (70% less) with high yield (95%) for nanogaujastic zeolite synthesis
• Determined the optimal condition of synthesis such as aging time, dehydration and hydration time (reaction time), and reaction temperature via large amounts of experiments based on the principle of variable and single variable
• Characterized synthesis product by using X-ray Diffraction for diffraction patterns, Scanning electron microscope (SEM) for high-resolution scanning micrographs, and Dynamic light scattering (DLS) for particle size
• Papers published by Microporous and Mesoporous Materials in May 2015 and August 2016
• Patent accepted by World Intellectual Property Organization on May 19 2016 Flint Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Term Project New York, NY Columbia University 09/2016-12/2016
• Prepared a historical summary of the events that led up to the crisis and a list of alternatives for providing water to the City of Flint
• Upgraded process flow diagram, plant layout, and design criteria (loading rates, hydraulic detention time, CT value, and sizing information) for each unit to treat water from Lake Huron based on the existing plant units and 10 States Standard
• Estimated cost for plant upgrade by using cost curves model presented in Kawamura (2008)
• Class discussion with Mr. John Young (overseer of the Flint Water Department) about practical solutions provided in Flint SKILLS
• Lab: X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Raman Spectroscopy, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Low and high speed centrifuges, UV Fluorescence (UVF), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Absorption Spectroscopy, Gas and Liquid Chromatography
• Software: Origin, Microsoft Office
• Languages: Chinese (Mandarin), English
