Qualifications
As a successful EHS professional I have experience in implementing company wide and site specific injury reduction programs, cost saving initiatives, personal assessment and development. My most recent successes while Director of HSE at Fenner Dunlop are:
Reduced worker compensation costs and injury rates through improved reporting, collaboration with insurance administrator and implementation of behavior based safety process with focus on personal responsibility for safety, hazard identification and reporting and positive reinforcement. These activities with Fenner reduced injury rates by at least 50% (company- wide OSHA recordable rate from above 6.0 to less than 3.0) and worker compensation costs were reduced to 10% of previous (previous per case cost was approximately $20,000 and were reduced to approximately $2500 per case) This was part of the strategic plan for injury reduction.
Implemented a behavior based safety program that was developed in collaboration with site managers and site safety professionals. Program utilized proactive activities that were site specific chose by site manager to match site culture and resources. Individuals were incentivized with monetary reward. The program also included a site based reward to utilize peer encouragement to increase participation. Site manager determine percent participation required for 3 three levels of pay out. Type of pay out also at discretion of site manager. It could be split between multiple shifts/people, it could be a single individual or it could be for a predetermined item such as a grill, an ipad etc.
Monthly data tracking included metrics for behavior based safety program (by site, number of qualifying activities by each activity, site percent participation, participation compare to established target goals, number of individuals participating and participating but not qualifying for monthly incentive), OSHA recordable, OSHA DART rates, and Lost time injury and severity by site, by manufacturing site, by Service sites, and total for group and compared to established goals for each level. Ensured consistent reporting and compliance to definitions established by OSHA and Group.
Met with sites to oversee their annual self-assessment process for comparison to Group Framework expectations and development of goals for improvement. I tracked progress towards those goals. I ensured that annual goals and objectives were aligned with site issues and Framework improvement
Developed presentations for executive meetings and monthly written reports for executives
Implemented a division wide health and safety compliance audit process utilizing internal resources
Implemented division wide root cause analysis process utilizing TapRoot. Established process required root causes and related documentation to be completed within 2 weeks of incident then was required to reviewed by cross functional team. Root cause was peer reviewed to ensure consistency of the process. Corrective Actions were tracked to resolution. A site Safety Professional assisted with peer review and implementation as part of his professional development
Implemented and administered Drug and Alcohol testing process to meet Executive expectations.
As part of a team reviewed existing data used for Title V air permit, determined that data was inaccurate and the methodology not acceptable to the agency; worked with legal, corporate and consultants to determine correct sampling methodology, gather data and determine if a Title V permit was necessary
