I taught 85% of students taking the state graduation test (HSAP) in my first year, and the schools pass percentage went from just under 50% to over 80%. I attribute this to teaching cognitive skills in conjunction or in concert with core curriculum. In the second year, I taught American Literature, for the most part, and only 30 students that took the HSAP exam. However, 26/30 students passed on the first try for an 86% pass percentage.
Started the Academic Challenge Team, and successfully raised the monies necessary for competition by applying for and receiving a grant.
