Letter of Recommendation

August 11, 2017

Human Resource Department:

I am providing a professional reference for Michael Zurkammer, who was under contract from 2003-2005 within the FedEx department for which I was the Director IT.

The departmental responsibilities included overall project management of the major revenue systems within FedEx Corporation. These systems included legacy mainframe, client/server and stand-alone applications. The revenue applications span remote customer sites for network connect and data entry to regional sites for rating and invoice billing. Another major responsibility of the department was to perform the final test of the end-to-end execution of all revenue systems which were merged into a corporate revenue load; this load occurred three times per year; thus, the department managed three versions of software concurrently at any time. The department reported to executive management the accuracy and status of the final testing for all revenue applications within each corporate load.

Mike was assigned to quality assurance and quality control functions within the department, including lead positions within corporate load testing and project management. Mike possessed an overall knowledge of methods, processes and procedures within the department and across departments within the IT Division. The schedules and end products under Mike’s control were provided in a timely manner and with quality whether he was responsible for results at the team member or project leader level. He was exemplary in identifying areas of improvement and reporting the areas of opportunity to IT management. Development of additional tools for quality assurance was performed by Mike on his own initiative; at times tools developed for one-time use were implemented into ongoing processes for software testing. As a project leader he would communicate to team members their responsibilities and duties for each segment of the work to be performed and had appropriate follow-up to ensure the end product of each phase met the previously stated requirements. This communication spanned diverse work groups, language barriers and time zones; follow-up was mandatory to ensure understanding of design, construct and test details.

Mike displayed the attitude and willingness to work as a team player for the overall enhancement of the project and the corporation; his decisions were based with the same outcome in mind. Flexibility was demonstrated by him on a week to week basis: in the determination of status and the execution of required changes to processes and procedures for the next testing cycle. Mike was able to change direction and inform the project teams across departmental lines of the redirection and consequence.

Michael Zurkammer is capable of performing IT related activities as a team member or project leader.
