Responsibilities included managing the Materials Lab, such as checking chemical compositions, microstructure analysis, tensile testing, and hardness (heat treating) of the metals. Controlled materials flow, writing work standards, technical standards, failure analysis, supplier auditing, QS9000 implementation as well as resolving technical matters with various engineering groups.
Dana Corporation: 1986 to 1992 Position held: Heat Treat Forman
Columbia, SC
Ran the heat treating and testing departments that manufactured components for the automotive and coal mining industries. Responsibilities included heat treating of various alloy types, and managing the materials lab. Job included heat treating using carbon based furnaces. Temper ovens and testing of metals after treatment. Cross sectioning, microstructure analysis, hardness, tensile, and fatigue testing.
United Technologies Corporation: 1980 to 1986 Position held: Machining and Heat Treat Supervisor
Killian, SC
Supervisor and coordinator of both the heat treating and machining areas of the plant. This facility produced components affiliated with military fuel injection products. Heat treat department consisted of 3 carbon nitride furnaces, temper ovens and precision straitening. The machining area consisted mainly of CNC lathes, milling, and grinding machines.
