Highlight: Successfully completed the course and became one of the stars in the province. 1.Leadership administrative and management experience
Throughout my teaching experience, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of properly and effectively managing the classroom, this I have done without fail. As a departmental head, I ensured that my phase is well administered and monitored the work of all educators in this phase. As the school principal, I have been, and still entrusted with the responsibility of providing efficient and effective school leadership and management. This has resulted in the promotion of strong school ethos which is conducive to the delivery of quality public education and creation of a positive learning experience for all.
Core duties and responsibilities
Managing a self – reliant and learning school
I have championed a professional leadership which involved comprehensive understanding of curriculum management and implementation.
I have been involved in initiating the development of functional curriculum structures such as quality learning and teaching programme (QLTP), assessment policies and school development teams, (SDT).
I have identified; determined and prioritised development and educational needs and goals as informed by the personal growth plans, (PGP).
I encouraged compliance with the non-negotiables, ie teachers in class on time and teaching, with no negligence of duty and no abuse of learners; learners also in class on time and learning and with respect of educators and other learners.
I successfully budgeted for the educator development and intervention programmes.
I evaluated and assessed the educator methods of assessment as well as their performance.
I have managed examinations, monitored and co-ordinated the moderation of school based assessments.
I liaised with relevant stakeholders as well as social partners to donate to the school.
Shaping the direction and development of the school
My vast knowledge of the South African Schools Act, the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), the Treasury Regulations as well as other relevant prescripts of education have assisted me in successfully implementing and monitoring administrative systems and tools, such as financial records, minute books, codes of conduct and others.
I ensured that proper communication strategies are improved at my present school.
I managed both physical and human resources to allow effective teaching and learning.
I made regular inspection of physical infrastructure and other equipment to ensure that they are properly utilised and maintained.
I timeously collected and submitted the prescribed surveys and ensured that these are accurate.
Managing the school as an organisation
I have supported the School Management Team (SMT) and the School Governing Body (SGB) in effectively and efficiently executing their responsibilities such as drawing up and implementing of school policies.
I supported and empowered the SGB to fully participate in co-operative governance.
I have successfully managed to liaise with the community and the school governing body in giving effect to the South African Schools Act, Planning, organizing as well as induction programmes for both educators and (SGB).
After attending a workshop at Umbumbulu College, I successfully capacitated principals in conducting the SGB elections.
I also successfully trained the SGB to effectively and efficiently manage and utilise school finances as stipulated in the PFMA no 1 of 1999.
I ensured that the SGB form the sub-committees such as the finance committee, and that these are empowered to do their work as legislated.
2 Organisational experience and ability
Having held various leadership positions, I have developed and acquired the capacity to plan, organise, implement and monitor a number of successful events and programmes.
As a school principal, I have successfully initiated and facilitated the school Soul Buddies club and have represented the school at provincial level for two successive years.
I have successfully organised a school environment education programme club in partnership with the KZN Department of tourism and environmental affairs and have represented the school at provincial level for two consecutive years.
As a chairperson of my circuit principals’ forum, I have ensured an effective organisation of the matric motivation and career pathing day for the district; this was done in partnership with the local and district municipality.
I effectively engaged with some of the non – government organisations, e.g. Rally 2 read to provide diverse curricula skills orientated programmes.
As part of or Circuit management centre events co-ordinating committee, I participated in the successful organisation of the teacher prayer day and successfully organised the farewell functions of the retired Chief Education specialist as well as the Deputy Chief Education specialist.
3 Professional development, educational experience and insight
I am in possession of a Primary Teachers’ Diploma, this has equipped me with content, methods, strategies and policies to plan for support programmes for staff curriculum implementation.
I also am in possession of a Further Diploma in Education (Science), this has equipped me with knowledge of curriculum management and development skills for teaching.
The Bed Honours (School Management) degree that I have has assisted me with the required leadership, communication, strategic planning and transformation skills of managing and leading a school.
I also ensure that my colleagues are also encouraged to keep improving and developing themselves so that they also acquire skills to further improve their teaching skills.
I have also ensured that effective quality staff training and programmes are planned and implemented, eg coaching, mentoring, orientation, induction and mentoring.
I have promoted and monitored assessment practices for improved teaching and learning.
