Roberto Rodriguez

A Miami-based classical ballet teacher and award-winning

choreographer, Roberto Rodriguez most recently served as the Dance Department Associate Director of Miami Arts Charter School in Wynwood and Homestead.

For eight years, he taught ballet at the prestigious Miami City Ballet School and served as Adjunct Dance Teacher at the nationally- recognized New World School of the Arts. Mr. Rodriguez directed Taller de Varones, a boy’s ballet workshop, dedicated to the development of classical male dancers in Puerto Rico. His students have excelled nationally and internationally having performed professionally with American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Orlando Ballet, Eglevsky Ballet, Houston Ballet, Washington Ballet, and Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Canada. Many of his students have been accepted into elite training programs including The Julliard School, School of American Ballet, Laban Dance Centre in London, Boston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and Joffrey Ballet School.

Roberto Rodriguez began his dance training at Ballets de San Juan in Puerto Rico and then at the School of America Ballet in New York. A former principal dancer with Ballets de San Juan for more than 12 years, Mr. Rodriguez performed lead roles in numerous ballets including Swan Lake, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Cinderella, Nous Sommes, La Fille Mal Gardee, Carmen, Nutcracker, Giselle, Firebird, Sleeping Beauty and Les Sylphides. He has also performed in several Balanchine ballets including Prodigal Son, Serenade, Tarantella, Who Cares?, Tschaikovsky Pas De Deux, Concerto Barocco and Apollo working with Victoria Simons, Sandy Jennings, and Melissa Hayden of the Balanchine Trust in the staging of these works. In addition to Ballets de San Juan, he performed with Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, among many others.

Mr. Rodriguez taught ballet, theater, pantomime, folkloric dance and creative movement for 22 years in the Puerto Rico Public School System, private dance studios, Ballets de San Juan and Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico. He founded Le Danse Studio in 1994, serving as Artistic Director until 2003.

Mr. Rodriguez holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Education from the University of Puerto Rico. He has taught dance in Miami- Dade Public Schools since 2004 including at MAC Wynwood, MAC Homestead, Mays Middle School and Norland Middle School.
